I need help. Mary A. Brooks married Joseph Daniel 'Dan' Cunningham Dec. 22, 1897 in Hill Co. The marriage ended in divorce in 1913. I am wondering what happened to Mary after the div. And there were three children: Joseph Marion who ended up in Calif. where he died in the 1980s; Lucretia or Lucrecia and Elsie. I have heard the girls never married. I don't know. If any Brooks' are somewhat kin to Mary and know what became of her and her girls, please let me know. Her ex, called Dan Cunningham, got custody of Joseph Marion. Mary got custody the girls. Mind you, there are numerous Cunningham's in Hill Co. Most originated from Tennessee and not of my Cunningham line. My Cunningham line comes from James who hailed from England, arr. at the coast in 1835. He married 1st Rebecca Fitzgerald. Of thier 9 children 3 wound up in Hill Co. from the Fayette Co. area. 1. Obed R. and wife Mary. I know a bit of them from newly found Cunningham kin. They were raising 2 Hammonds kids, orphaned and the ch. of Obed's sister Margaret and her husb. Hosea Hammonds. 2. Frank and wife Emily. I know a bit of them from new found Cunningham kin. Also raising 2 Hammonds kids, orph. and ch. of Frank's sis. Margaret and her husb. Hosea Hammonds. 3. Nancy who 1st marri. Archie Ray and had daus. Mary who marr. Sam Trya and Susan E. The marr. ended in divorce. Nancy then married John G. Duncan. They ended up in Hill Co. She and John were raising her nephew John Hammonds, son of her sis. Margaret and her husb. Hosea Hammonds. As for the Hammonds/Hammons: Margaret Cunningham and Hosea marr. in Lavaca Co. No one knows where for sure they ended up. One rumor is Bosque Co. I don't know. But Hosea rode off one day and never returned. His horse did, however. An investigation turned up nothing. Later, while her infant John, Margaret dropped dead in the doorway of her home. I want to know more of: 1. Mary's marr. to Sam Tyra and more infor. on thier fam. Desc. Mitch Tyra is a busy man and has declined to help. 2. I'd like to know if anyone knows anything on Susan Ray. 3. Is there any other info. on the Hammonds/Hammons. I have some info. from desc. newly found but even thier info. is little since the 5 Hammonds chil. were orphaned so young. John was just a baby. And the dau. Sally isn't as well documented as her sisters and brothers, though she on at least one census. Could she have died young? Anything extra that can be learned of these families will be appreciated. Betty Wingo, Roy Bessire, and others have been helpful. There are still holes here and there. I am desc. from James Cunningham's second marr. to Lucinda J. Bolton Jones with whom he had 10 kids...I am desc. from their son C. M. Neal who married Ola Brown... and from their dau. Hazel who married C. C. 'Bill' Butler....and thier son C. K. 'Ted" Butler. James Cunningham poss. died in either McLennan or Hill Co.'s. No one knows or even where he is buried. Lucinda lived with a few of her younger and unmarried children in the Tyson area after the turn of the century.
