    2. The only mention of NEWBY in Bailey's book is as follows on Page 28: Jonathan Newby (who was killed by one of his slaves) lived on the west side of Hackberry Creek south of Hillsboro. John McKoy lived south of Mr. Newby and near his place the last buffalo was reported to have been killed. Some say this was in 1852 - it is possible that the last one killed in those parts was in 1852, but I have records of an old buffalo that was almost blind being killed in the cross timbers near the Brazos River in the early 1870s. West of Mr. Newby on Jack's Branch was where Jack Bolies located (Jack's Branch was named for Mr. Boles.)

    3. Thanks to all of you who sent the information on Jonathan Newby, [the very short mention of him in Bailey's book.] Saved me some bucks. I would like to contact someone who lives in Hill County who might be able to do some research for me at the courthouse. I would like to find the record for the trial that was suppose to have been held for my grandfather who took revenge on the slave who killed my great grandfather. Anyone out there willing to take this on? Again thanks to all of you for info on Jonathan. Sug >
