    3. Merlene Sudduth SUDDUTH, MERLENE, beloved mother, grandmother and sister, passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2002 after a courageous 4 year battle with colon cancer. Merlene was born on April 17, 1929 in Whitney, TX to Bill and Pearl Fowler. She grew up in the country during the depression, surrounded by a loving family and wouldn't have traded her life for any other. She graduated from Hillsboro High School and married Gene Sudduth in 1946. She was a devoted housewife and mother for many years before beginning a career in 1963 at Hartford Insurance and retiring from Fireman's Fund in 1991. She has resided in Mesquite for the past 45 years. Her passions were her family, crafts, sewing, collecting cookbooks and seashells. She was active in the Rutherford Senior Center in Mesquite and a member of the original Park Drive Baptist Church in Hillsboro, TX. Merlene is survived by son and daughter-in-law, David and Judy Sudduth, daughters and son-in-laws, Shirley and Lee Rippy, Donna and Jeff Brasher, all of Mesquite. Grandchildren, Pam Watson, husband Bob, Chris Walters, wife JoAnne, Kathy Connell, fiance Tim Collins, Beth and Colin Brasher; great-grandchildren, Jake Connell, Ethan and Gracy Walters, Bobby and Megan Watson; sister and best friend, Peggy Moseley, husband Bruce of Dallas; nieces, Sharon Shoop and Karen White; a large extended family and numerous dear friends. Merlene was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Gene Sudduth; parents, Bill and Pearl Fowler and in-laws, Guy and Minnie Sudduth. The family would like to thank Dr. Mennel, Dr. Lichliter, Vitas Hospice and her many caregivers for their efforts in treating and caring for her. The funeral will be held at Anderson Clayton Funeral Home, Mesquite on Mon 10-28 at 2 pm with burial at Grove Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM Sunday at Anderson Clayton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
