Deven: Land records did not have to be recorded in county sold. Since people har to use horse power they went to the County Court House that was the closest to them. This happens often where a plot of land was sold in one county but was regestered in anotheer simply because that courthouse was closer to them. I don't understand about land records that I'm hoping one of you experts might be able to help with. My ancestor sold a piece of her property in 1837 that was situated near Whitney in Hill County - it was Robertson County at that time. I found the transaction on the Robertson County microfilm deed roll, but the actual grant was recorded by the Milam County clerk. Similar situation in 1854 - a family member sold property in Mercer's Colony which was in Dallas County, but the transaction showed up in the land records for Hill County.
