    2. Karen Cotten
    3. Just thought that I would share an article that recently appeared in the Reporter. I know nothing more about this project other than what is written in the article. Karen (Brooks) Cotten Pictorial History of Hill County Being Planned Wednesday, February 19, a representative of the Donning Company will be in Hillsboro to discuss the publication of a pictorial history of Hill County. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church building, located behind the old county jail (now known as the Hill County Cell Block Museum) off North Waco Street on East Paschal Street. The Hill County Sesquicentennial Committee is requesting anyone who has pictures that may be copied or information on any historical event or place in the county to attend. Needed are good pictures or stories of past and current history. Information on families, churches, organizations, communities, businesses, etc. will be appreciated. The committee emphasizes that this must be a countywide effort in order to be successful. For additional information, contact Cleo Young Davis at 254-582-3603 or cleodavis@hillsboro.net . Following the meeting, everyone is welcome to enjoy a Dutch-treat lunch at Karen's Specialty and Gourmet Shoppe, located in the old Interurban ticket office building on North Waco Street. No reservations are needed. After lunch, there will be a tour of the Hill County Courthouse.

    1. [TXHILL] Trying to Locate Cemeteries
    2. Do you have any information on the cemeteries listed below? The Waco-McLennan County Library's Cemetery Interest Group is trying to collect information on all cemeteries and burial sites in and immediately around McLennan County, Texas.  Most of these cemeteries on the list below should be in McLennan County.  However, some of them may be in one of our neighboring counties. To date we have a list of 320+ cemeteries and burial sites that have been identified.  However, we are unable to locate about 43 of them.  The ones on the list below could be "lost" or could have undergone a name change, could be "swallowed up" by another cemetery, could have been moved (re-interred), or perhaps the name was simply misspelled or is an alternate name.  We just don't know.  References to burials at these locations have been found in old funeral home records, newspaper obits, city directories, etc. ****************** Please understand that we have MANY cemeteries on our list (over 300).  The last time we posted this list of "unknowns" we were flooded with people upset that we didn't have the obvious and more well-known cemeteries on our list and...gee...what a terrible job we were doing!   I can assure you they are on the list!!!  The ones on the list below are only "unknowns"!  We just need a little extra help with these: Ballinger Farm Cemetery Bedwell Cemetery Billinger Cemetery Bradley Cemetery Brights Cemetery Brookshire Cemetery Burnham Cemetery Caladonia Cemetery Cassie Cemetery Cedar Grove Cemetery Chicken Ranch Cemetery City Grove Cemetery Colany Cemetery Coling Cemetery Connor Cemetery Corner Cemetery Darrounds Darwin Ranch Cemetery Drake Cemetery Earle Cemetery Elk Prairie Hill Cemetery Erath Cemetery G. A. Cemetery Gates Cemetery Gill Farm Cemetery Grove Hill Cemetery Gurley Cemetery Halford Cemetery Herwoods Garden Cemetery Hewitt Cemetery Hickory Flat Cemetery Jerman Town Cemetery (sic) Johnson Cemetery Little Bethlehem Cemetery Miles Station, TX Monchock Cemetery Morgan School Cemetery Oak Valley Cemetery Perry Grove Cemetery Pevy Cemetery Price Store Cemetery Reese Farm Cemetery Resco Farm Cemetery San Hand Cemetery Shoe Fly Cemetery Please let me know if you have any clues or suggestions.  For example, we know there was an Oak Valley School in northern McLennan County and that could be a clue. Thanks! Carol Anne Wilson

    3. You don't have to get certified copies of the marriages, then they are only a $1 a copy. Births and deaths have to be certified that is by the states law. They will do lookups as they have time. Cathy _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8. 3. Jackie, The records haven't been transcribed yet. You have to do physical look ups as of two weeks ago. I did some there, and the ladies are very helpful at the county clerks office. You might get one of them to look it up for you. I had some certified copies made and they ran about eight dollars apiece. Marriage records are in books, birth and death records are on micro film. 1. [TXHILL] Hill County Tax Questions
    2. Shon Samples
    3. Dear Friends, I am currently researching some late 1800s Tax Microfilm rolls for Hill County Texas and have a couple of questions I hope you can help me with: 1. On some of the Assessment Forms there is an entry for "From what tract taken". This is under the Real Property section of the form. I was wondering if it is documented somewhere where these tracts were physically in the county. I was hoping there might be a county map that would show the original tracts and how they were sectioned. 2. As you know the microfilm rolls can be hard to read at times and are usually just as bad or worse when printed so I was wondering if there is a depository somewhere with blank Assessment forms that one could fill out while viewing the microfilm. Any help and/or direction is much appreciated! Thanks, Shon

    1. [TXHILL] Marriage License
    2. I have a marriage license (the original) from Hill County, Texas for Allen Walton and Miss Nancy Curington. (I'm not sure of the spelling of her last name.) They were married 15/16 October 1899 by William Fields, Minister of the Gospel. As you may already know, after the marriage was filed and recorded the marriage license was mailed to the address given by the bride and groom. If they were not at that address the license was to be returned to the court house. At one time I got several for my family. They had a vault with many returned licenses. My family in Hill County was the Walton family. I was never able to tie Allen Walton with my line which is James Franklin Walton and Daphney Eurania Hufham of Hill County. James Franklin Walton was married first to Mary A. Snailum of Hill County. If Allen Walton and Nancy are of your line I will be glad to send the license to you. 3. There are several books on History of Hill County... "A History of Hill County, Texas 1853-1980" is by the Hill County Historical Commission. "A History of Hill County Texas 1838-1965" is by Ellis Bailey. Both are really good reference books. I recommend them. There is also on on Johnson and Hill Counties that has biographical sketches in it... forget if I saw it at Hillsboro Library or Waco Library... but it is wonderful. I believe that book was at the library in Waco... It has a nice genealogy section, so don't forget to check there! Di Diana Holland

    1. [TXHILL] Hill County Book
    2. Some time ago someone told me about a history book of Hill County and looked up some information in it for me. I can't remember who told me about it. It was a history book which I believe a person had to pay to have his/her family included. My grandfather, James Franklin Walton, was one of the first settlers, before Hubbard was a town. His family wasn't included, probably because he didn't have the money to be included. I wonder if this is the same book. Anne Walton Wilson
