Is anyone working on the Dawson or Hustead or Husted lines? My grandfather is Henry Leonard Dawson. b 17 Jan 1871 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. md 13 Dec 1893 in Hillsboro, Hill, Texas. D 10 May 1940 in Houston, Harris, Texas. His father was John E. Dawson and mother Nancy M. Walker. They came to Texas from Tennessee, possibly Dickson County, Tennessee. I have visited the Mt Antioch Cemetery and found graves for B. R. Dawson, Donie Dawson, W. H. Gordon, C. R. Morris, J. T. gordon, D. W. Gordon apparently all related to the Dawsons. My grandmother is George Ann Hustead, b 18 Feb 1879. D 26 Jan 1963 in Houston, Harris, Texas. Her father was Phineas H. Hustead. died in Hill County, Texas about 1894. I found him listed with his parents on the 1850 Dallas County Census. He was the only child born in Texas. The others were borh in Illinois. His father Hanson Hustead or Hustean was born in Virginia together with his wife Prudence. Some family moved to Oklahoma. Thanks for any input you might have.

I was wondering if anyone knew the location of the "Old Peoria Cemetery". I know there is one in Peoria but I was speaking to someone at one of the Funeral Homes in Hillsboro and he mentioned there was another I thought he called the "Old Peoria Cemetery". I believe he said it is south of Peoria near Aquilla. He sounded like it would be hard to give directions. Is anyone aware of this cemetery and if so the location/directions to it. I believe some of my ancestors might be buried there. One of them is John Locklear. The last name is spelled several different ways but he died in Hill County in 1858 or 1859. 1858 is the last year I found him paying taxes on some land after researching microfilm. His wife Eliza showed up in 1859 so I am assuming he passed away between 1858-1859. His wife Eliza also shows up on the 1860 census without her husband. Hi, Thank you for your time, and offering to do cemetery look ups. I would like to know if there are any Hughitt's, Huitt's, Hughett's, Hewitt's, buried in Derden Cemetery. (different spellings of this name and family has been found This is a long shot as my Huitts were in Hill Co. 1870 and on the census there then moved to Hamilton and on Census in 1880. 2 girls, children or women of the Huitt houseold, one born May 9,1856 ARK, named Mary Ann (Annie) died there August 9, 1874. The other was Elizabeth Jane (Lizzie) born ARK 1847-1848 and died in Hill County July 11, 1871. Don't know if they were married or single or died accidently or in childbirth or ? and would greatly appreciate any burial information concerning these two. Regarding the Freemans of Hill Co. My family, the Bosticks (Covington & Itasca) lived in Rusk Co also, prior to moving to Hill Co. A Walter Freeman was closely associated with the Bosticks (I have a picture of him) & I believe there was some familial connection but haven't been able to pin that one down. Walter lived in Itasca & would have been born in early 1900s. Does anybody have a Walter Freeman in their records? Robert, I have some of the same names you have, at least the sur-name is the same. But first, I believe Covington is in Hill Co., TX. My great grandmother was buried there in 1901. She was Eliza Abagail Hamilton Pledger. I'm interested alo in the Freeman family you mention. My other great grandmother, Elizabeth McKinney was first married to a Wakefield in Lincoln Co., TN. Her daughter, Delia Ann married Hiram Fuller Freeman, 1853 in Lincoln Co. After Delia died, her son, John Lafayette Freeman, brought his younger sisters to Hill Co.by 1875.Their names were Jinnie, Sally, and Molly. Also living there was their grandmother, Elizabeth, and her McKinney children. My grandfather, John (J J), being one of those children. He married my grandmother, Eliza Jane Pledger in 1871, we think in Hill Co. Dortha -- Look in the "Handbook of Texas" (try google.com). It should have a history of Wakfield, Derden, Blum, etc. Also, I think that MapQuest may have a map that will show you where these places are. They are hard to find. Robert Lynn Taylor
Dortha -- Thank you for your reply. You are correct that Covington, TX is in Hill CO. The only Freeman I have in my tree is Taylor Freeman who married Lillie Mae Taylor, and his father seems to have been J. T. Freeman: 1880 Census - Rusk CO, TX -age 30-TX, living with J. T. Freeman (68-TX), Peggy (48-TX), Mittie (9-Tx). We know that Samuel B Taylor was born in TN, (Lillie Mae's father) and it would be nice to make a connection with Lincoln CO, TN since he is my brick wall. While searching for my grandfather , Andrew J Pendleton , I was told he was in the older part of Peoria Cemetery and he was. At Marshall and Marshall a Mr. West was a great help. There is a cemetery listing at the Hillsboro Library that helped also. It has the older gravesites in it. Lou Childress
