Shon, I haven't been to that cemetery, but your best source is Cathy Shelley at the Hill Co. home site. She is the resident expert on cemeteries in Hill County. In the Old Woodbury, there are a lot of graves that are just marked with brick or field stones. Some just had irons driven into the ground. For some reason, when the last big vandalism that occurred there, the headstones were hauled off and no one seems to know where. this was done instead of just replacing them or putting them up in an empty area. There could be several of the private cemeteries, I just don't know about them. again, Cathy is your best bet. Butch, Thanks. I hate to hear about the vandalism. That's a shame. Do you know anything about the Allison Cemetery? I belive it is within a few miles west to southwest of there. This is the closest I could find relative to where my ancestors lived. Unless there are still some cemeteries that have not been put up on any of the various websites. For all I know there is some small cemetery on someones land that isn't public record. Thanks again for the follow up! Shon, I recorded the "Old Woodbury Cemetery" last fall, but don't have it on the Hill Co site yet. I went through my notes, and there is not a Locklear or Samples with a headstone buried there. However, this cemetery has been vandalized quite a bit, and just on a quick guess, probably a hundred or more graves, or what appear to be graves are not marked. Hope this helps by the process of elimination. I am looking for any old cemeteries of any size that might be located North of Peoria, West of Woodbury, South of Blanton, along the HCR 2415 that runs between Hwy 22 and HCR 1335. The closest one I can come up with might be the Allison Cemetery, another option might be Woodbury or Jawbone. I have some ancestors that lived on land Abstract 584 in this area and I know at least 2 of them died there in Hill County between 1858 and 1861. The reason I am asking is because I have been unable to locate them in any of the inventoried cemetery registries so after viewing some Tax Microfilm from Baylor I at least know where the land is that they paid taxes on, which is in the area I described above. The Allison Cemetery looks like the best bet but thought I'd ask the distro list. I am looking for: John Locklear died in 1858-59 Catherine Sample died not long after birth in 1860 but her twin brother lived. I am not sure how long Catherine lived but she at least made it on the 1860 Hill county census with her mother and brother Elizabeth and John Sample. I just know from some old letters she didn't live long after birth, days, weeks, months, I am not sure of. I have been to the Hill County Library and searched everything I could find there with no luck. I also walked the Peoria Cemetery with no luck which led me to looking at the Tax Microfilm from Baylor. This at least gave me an idea of where they lived. I am now just short of taking a few days and just drive all over that area to see what I might find for lack of anything else to try. Any direction or ideas is appreciated! Thanks, Shon

Hi, Prudence was listed as Mother in law so I figure she is E.J.'s Mother-not sure tho. Mary/East Texas <')))><
Dear Barbara, Lots of the old streets in Duncanville are named for early settlers there. There is a Hustead street. Since the family has been found in Dallas County on the census it would't hurt to check out Duncanville, too. For many years Duncanville was a delightful place to live. I lived and taught school there. I have the 1880 Census with John E. Dawson and Nancy M. Dawson and 5 children. I haven't been able to find them in the 1870 Census. In the 1850 Dallas County Census, I found Hanson Hustean with Prudence and 9 children. I haven't found them in Hill County. Their youngest son Finas (or Phineas) H. Hustead was born in 1847 in Texas. Is the McDonough you mention perhaps Prudence's maiden name? When I get a change I will check on the reference you mention. -----Original Message----- From: metg37@webtv.net [mailto:metg37@webtv.net] Sent: Sunday, February 23, 2003 6:40 PM To: TXHILL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TXHILL] Dawson and Hustead Barbara, If you donot have 1880 Census info please reply and I will send more.
