Census Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2001 15:15:21 -0800 Dorothy, The very next page of that 1900 Hill County census, 043a, lists Darius Jean. His application for a pension based on his Mexican War services states that he is a resident of Blaton, Texas. His son, Dan Jean, is listed on the page with your grandparents, Andrew and Hannah Bishop. There is a cemetery in that area which is sometimes referred to as "Jawbone" or "Blanton", but the real name is Pleasant View Memorial Cemetery, 1885. Darius and Dan Jean are both buried there. I can't remember the Hill County Road numbers, but you head west off 171 at Osceola on HR 934. I want to say that the cemetery is located at the intersection of HCR 1244 and 1200. Hope this helps pinpoint the location you were inquiring about. Dear Bob, That was very nice of you to donate the census. I wondered how that worked. I hope someone will undertake this project. There may be one in a book somewhere. Then it would just have to be put on computer. Census was placed on the Internet by USGenWeb. I donated the census to this organization. Unfortunately, an Index did not come with it. If one exists, I do not know of it. Usually, the County website asks for volunteers to produce an Index. Bosque Co. did this for their 1870 Census. Bob Maloy
Is there an index for the 1900 Census for Hill Co.? I have never seen it before. Hi listers. Love the 1900 Census cite - Thanks. I have a question about actual location of land in relation to 1900 Hill Co. census precints on the internet.-[042b.gif] and [126b.gif] My grandparents Andrew Bishop and Hannah Hale Bishop are located in Justice precint # 4, Supervisor Dist 6, Enum Dist 45. HH # 377. Neighbors on page include Yocum, Day, Martin, Baker, Pinkard, Jean, BISHOP, Davis, Mcfadus?, & Allen. My Greatgrandparents Elkanah D. Hale & Susan Jane Beeson are located in South part of Justice precint #6, Sup Dist 6, Enum Dist.49 HH # 12 with neighbors Yocum, Butters????, HALE, Ince, Nelson, Johnson, Yocum,& Wilson. Would anyone know where these are located on the map? Are they close together? My mother was born at Blum but could have been at her grandparents. Any help would be appreciated. Dorothy

Good question on the Justice Precincts! I've wondered the same. Is there a way to determine *where* various Precincts were located over time, not only for the 1900 census? I have several references on various documents (death certificates, census, etc.) which lists a certain location as Justice Precinct X -- and have wondered what territory each covered. Any advice would be greatly welcomed! Many thanks! Sara in Houston

Hi Darlene, Hi Darlene, Please wish your aunt, Mrs. Hooker a "Special Happy Birthday" from the Duluth, GA connection. I have not been working on my Turk connection lately as we have been busy with Jim's side of the family, but I haven't given up. Ask Mrs. Hooker if any of the Turks lived in the San Antonio area. My aunt remembers taking my grandmother, Hannah Matilda Hale Bishop Allen to visit her relatives from her first marriage to Andrew Jackson Bishop whose mother was a Turk. I have to get to Hill Co and check on records soon. My Daughter in Norman, OK is expecting a baby at the end of March wish I could get down to Hill Co then. Mom remembers as a young girl visiting her grandmother Turk and Uncle Jack and Uncle Jim and Aunt Gilly. It is all there but I can't make the connection. Did I tell you I have affidavits from A J Turk & J M Turk referring to my grandfather Andrew Jackson Bishop as their nephew. One of these days I will find it. So good to see your note. Again - Happy Birthday and many, many more. Keep in touch, Dorothy Rouse >
Happy Birthday from a California born daughter of a native of Hubbard City, Hill county, Texas! Although my father, Charles J. Hudson was born there in 1913, he has since died and is buried in Kingsburg, CA. My aunt, Neoma Hudson Savage, was born in Hill county, Texas in July of 1903. Neoma is a live and well in Texas as we speak. This family of mine was made up of the Thompsons, Pates, Hudsons, and later, Dursts. My mother's grandmother and great grandmother ran a boarding house in Hubbard City about 1900, allowing "the children" to attend school. ear
Hello, My aunt, my mother's only sibling, was born January 31, 1910 in Hill County, Texas. She will be 91 next Wednesday. She enjoys great health and still loves Hill County. I take her to visit cemeteries (Ridgecrest old and new?, Vaughn and Hillcrest) once a year. We drive around the county and Hillsboro so I can hear her great stories. She points out places and things she remembers from childhood and I try to write it all down to tell my children if they are ever interested. If any of you wonderful Hill County people would like to send her a birthday message, I will print it out and give it to her. She is Lucille Cleveland Hooker. Her parents were Dana and Cora Hill Cleveland. Her grandparents were Richard and Amanda Turk Cleveland and Dr. W.R. Hill and Augusta Smith Hill all of Hill County. She married Harold Otis Hooker of Hillsboro on her 18th birthday. Thanks, Darlene Henson [email protected]
