Edward Nixon Yates was the son of Joseph Christopher Columbus Yates and Alice Eliza Tekell. Joseph was my grandfather's brother! Alice and Joseph (Lum) both died in Hubbard, Hill Co., Texas. I have a snapshot of Lum and Alice circa 1940. I have Edward's brothers and sisters info. I have their lineage back to 1575.
I just put up a newspaper clipping from 1964 Hillsboro Reporter, of a group of men sitting on a bench downtown. The man on the far right is Ben Edward Coleman, the grandfather of Betty Wingo and Margaret Allen.. If you had men that sat around downtown whitney in 1964, please look at this clipping, to see if you can identify any of the others! Right now, it's #123 on the photo site: http://www.zing.com/album/?id=4293428835 Barbara Craddock Pike PS.... If you've got any photos or postcards or newspaper clippings related to Hill County, I'd love to put them on this site for you! We're up to 149!
Posted on: Hill County Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Tx/Hill/1082 Surname: DAWSON, BALDWIN, WEBB, PETERS ------------------------- Seeking info about my gggrandparents, Jonathan/John DAWSON & Mary Ann "Polly" (WEBB). They were married in MS in 1837, moved to Bell Co. TX before 1870, and were still there on 1880 Census. The 1900 Hill Co. TX Census lists Polly DAWSON as a widow living with her youngest daughter, Rosa/or Rose (DAWSON) PETERS and her three children. 1. James THOMAS (by her first husband). 2. John PETERS, and 3. Mary PETERS, both by second husband. Rosa is also a widow. Did John DAWSON die in Hill Co. TX? John & Polly DAWSON's son (my ggrandfather) Samuel John DAWSON, who married Nancy Jane BALDWIN, moved to Johnson Co. TX, so I don't know if they lived in Hill Co. or not, but Polly could very well be buried in Hill Co. My own grandparents, John Anderson DAWSON and Susan Frances RUSSELL settled in Johnson Co where my own father was born. If anyone is researching these lines, or has any info or possible leads for me, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, Judi
My ancestor owned property in the area of Whitney Lake; he died in 1836 and one of his daughters (age 5 in 1835) died shortly thereafter. I suspect they were buried on the property, most of which is now under the lake. I've checked cemetery lists, but they do not appear on the lists. I'm wondering, however, if a map exists showing where burial sites were before the bodies were moved. I'm thinking I might be able to identify currently unidentifed graves in the new cemeteries based upon where the graves were before they were moved. Anyone know of such a map? I've checked with the Corps of Engineers, but they couldn't help.

The NOC staff has built a new RAID and is in the process of backing everything up to the new raid. When this is completed they will put the server back online. Hopefully this will solve the problems we've been having with this server recently. No word on exactly when the server will be back online. We'll let you know when that happens. I have changed the "introduction" on the first page, with, hopefully, clearer instructions on how to best get around this site. Next time you go there, please take a second to read the new introduction. For those who haven't ever visited the site, now's a good time. This is a site of photos submitted by people like yourself. If you have any photos of the people or places of Hill County, please e-mail me, and I'll help you get them up on the site. I'm hoping ya'll send me some more photos. I love putting them up, and I hope ya'll enjoy looking at them. Barbara
Thank you to those who took a few minutes, as per my request last week, to see how the photo site worked for you. As best as I can tell, the recent upgrades made by Zing to the site, have made it to where Netscape 4.7 users (and earlier versions) experience problems when viewing the site. Those who view it with AOL or with Internet Explorer (at least ver. 5) aren't having any problems. I have both Netscape 4.7 and Internet Explorer 5 on my computer, and it works with IE, and not Netscape. I have just received the new Netscape 6, but haven't installed it yet, so I don't know how the site will work with that. I am pretty much in the dark, when it comes to the inner workings of computers, websites, and the like. The problem though, seems to stem from the Website updating and using Java or Javascript that the older versions of web browsers can't handle. So, my "suggestion" if you are having difficulty viewing this (or any other websites) and you have an older version of your browser, your best bet is to upgrade your browser to the most recent edition, to take advantage of all the "stuff" that these websites are now using.
