Does anyone have any info on the Morgan family of Abbott, Hill Co. TX. There was a daughter Donna Morgan, and I seem to remember (or think I remember) the fathers name was either Jim or Jack Morgan. I know there was an older sister of Donna, but don't remember her name. This Morgan family is somehow linked to mine and I am grasping at straws. James McIlroy

Posted on: Hill County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Hill/1091 Surname: YOUNG ------------------------- I know the Hill County Genealogical Society is supposed to do searches for obits... Cathey Shelley has the Hill County list on rootsweb. I think to sign up you send an email to: [email protected] and type subscribe in the body of the email. Then to send a query, you send email to: [email protected] Cathey does do some lookups for people on the list. She has a message posted about the list on this query board. Best of luck. I need some obits too... but they'll probably have to wait until I get back to TX in the summer.
Posted on: Hill County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Hill/1090 Surname: Young ------------------------- Yes, I know that Richard J. Young's father was Richard J. Young Sr., (who died in Clark Co. AR in 1897) and his wife was Rosie Leona Brannan. I have a list of their children, but what I need is to know what the J. stood for, so as to better identify his father's initial J., and thereby place him with his correct parents. I was hoping an obituary might give us the middle name. Is there anyone who could search for his obit in July 1964 in Hill County? He died on the 12th, and his residence was Bynum. Thank you.

Mine settled in Abbott. Descendants have also been in Calhoun, McLennan, Childress, Runnels, Navarro, Bosque, and supposedly Bell and Bexar Co areas. William Marion Holland, Sr. b: Nov 4, 1818 in Jackson Co, TN d: Apr 4, 1907 in Abbott was my ggg grandfather. He's buried in Liberty Grove Cemetery, McLennan Co. Have lots of info to share. Trying to tie in with other Hill County Hollands.
Cathy, Thanks, I had found the list for the cemetery, but it gives no dates for James & Epsie, just their names. Thanks again. Sonya
We made a trip back east in 1993 and visited the Old Woodbury Cemetery. It was in pretty bad shape then. I was told that a farmer who had bought the acreage had tried to plough it under. We found the headstone of our 2 gr grandmother, Mary Matilda Reeves Benton Climer. Our gr grandfather was Sully Reeves Benton. After the death of his father Erasmus Benton in E Carroll Par LA in 1858, his mother married James M Climer. The family moved to Hill Co about 1867. Sully's brother George W Benton was a physician in Woodbury until his death in 1908. Sully married Bettie Nunn, daughter of William M Nunn of Hill Co, she was born in Hill Co in 1854. We first found the headstone for James Climer. Mary's was nearly entirely buried, but recognizing his name we searched and finally uncovered her headstone. It was a very emotional experience. Such a shame that there are so many abandoned graveyards all over the country and such a shame that so many have no respect for them. Ellen
Hi All, With Cathy's permission I'd like to say that work is being done to protect our older cemeteries. But for it to work we need your help. It won't take a minute, but if you could write a letter to your Representative asking him or her to vote for House Bill 1030 we might get some state funding to help preserve some of our cemeteries. You can read all about it and find out who your Representative is by visiting the web site of "Historic Texas Cemeteries". http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~txcemeteries/ Hope to see you there, donna ----- Original Message ----- From: "kathye" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, February 05, 2001 6:59 PM Subject: Re: Cemetery Horror!!!!! Cemetery desecration and vandalism is rampant all over Texas!!! Every single time I return to a family cemetery, there are new headstones/markers broken or gone completely. There are at least 25 markers in various family cemeteries that were victimized by vandals-all the more reason you should photograph every single one in your family as well as a distance shot to show where the marker is/was!!!! I have been told that the missing markers are used as steps in muddy pasture land - grrrrrrr! Something has got to be done to preserve our old cemeteries!!!!

How spooky..gives me chills to think about it... >> I hope so, but with the history of other cemetery desecrations, I don't think so. There is one that is on the outskirts of Cedar Hill (Dallas county) that was vandalized several times in the 1980s. There was a gate, but it was in the middle of nowhere with no houses nearby, so it was hard to enforce. I don't know if they ever caught the people who were doing that.
