Posted on: Hill County Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Tx/Hill/11099 Surname: DAWSON ------------------------- Need someone to look for death record or cemetery record for John Dawson, born about 1815 TN, died before 1900, possibly in Hill Co. TX. His wife, Mary Ann "Polly" (Webb) Dawson, is on the 1900 Hill Co. TX Census living with her youngest daughter, Rose Ellen (Dawson) Peters, and is listed as a widow. They were all in Bell Co. in 1880, and we have not been able to find either a record of John's death or a burial/cemetery listing. Their son, Henry Clay Dawson, was also listed on the 1900 Hill Co. Census, and family history says he died in 1900, at about age 30, so it would have been in the latter half of the year. We have been unable to find death or burial records for him either. Any and all possible leads or assistance will be appreciated.
Yes, Thanks for the info! Deanna :~}

They are listed in the 1910 census living in Justice Precinet No. 6. Herman's wife was named Annie. Her maiden name was Rape. Also looking for info for a family named Ingledow who lived in the same precinet. Any help would be appreciated,
Jerry, I have a 1964 rough sketch of the Peoria cemetery, showing only last names and general locations of grave markers. There are two Word graves indicated along the north boundary of the property. Adjacent markers include: Boyd, Cliett, Jordan, Hill, Halbert, Williford, and Hays. The Word markers are north of the East-West center road, and appear from the sketch to be not too far from the turnout (parking spot) near the big oak tree, and some distance east of the North-South road. There is one Wilson marker shown near the south entry to the cemetery, east of the North-South road. Nearby markers include: Powers, Thomas, Bilbery, Hairston, Truman, and Claridy. Maybe this will be of some help to Deanna when she visits Peoria. Jon Bennett in Fort Worth
Hi, Cathy is working on the Peoria Cemetary, but it is not on the Hill County Web site yet. I will be visiting this cemetary in a couple weeks. What is the name and dates you are looking for? Thanks, Deanna Wilson Blanton, Houston, TX

Usually these folks create a name - mail out a bunch - and then disappear. But.. perhaps they can do something with it. Take care - Emma

From: "Sandy Van Wyk" <[email protected]> Subject: {not a subscriber} Update on Harper Cemetery, Elk, McLennan County Texas Date: Sun, 4 Mar 2001 19:52:50 -0700 Hope the lists won't mind me posting this notice again. And I apologize if you get this numerous times as I am sending out to several lists. Harper Cemetery is just east of Waco, off Hwy. 84 in Elk, McLennan County, Texas. At one time it may have been called Harper's School Cemetery. Volunteers and neighbors have cared for the cemetery over the years but it is a very big undertaking. The cemetery is about 3 acres and is in need of cleaning and upkeep. The newest grave is about 1965. The cemetery was surveyed years ago and there is a book in the Waco Public Library with a list of graves. I believe there are about 170 graves and we also have a list of unmarked graves. There is a group of people who met in January and again in February for two very successful days of cleaning. It is a very large project and will take a lot of perseverance to keep up with it. Please let me know if you have any interest in this cemetery. There will be another work day soon and it is hoped a cemetery association will be formed. Hello, List: Does anybody out there have any info on William A. GRAHAM's family or Havens J. HAMMEL's family, which both lived in Hill Co.? William A. and his wife Margaret EUBANKS, m. 1839 Monroe Co., AL, had daughters A.C. b. 1840 AL, V.V. (probably Vashti) b. 1842 AL, and sons John Beecher b. 1844 AL and Duncan McFarland b. 1846 MS, all shown on the 1850 Leake Co., MS census. They moved to TX in 1851. William's wife was Elizabeth on the 1860 Hill Co. census with daughter Sarah C., age 3/12, b. TX. William and Elizabeth were listed on the 1870 Hill Co. census with Alonzo C, age 17, b. TX (is this the same A.C. shown b. 1840 on the Leake Co. census??), Sarah, age 10, and Donnald B. age 5. Also listed were John B. with wife Mary Jane HAMMEL and daughter Margaret E., age 2, and Duncan M. with wife Francis and son James A., age 2. Elizabeth HAMMEL, Mary Jane's mother, was listed on the 1870 Hill Co. census with children Susan, Frances, Rebecca, John and Jessie. Elizabeth's husband Havens J. was not listed, but apparently was not deceased. Obituary for Jessie is listed in the Hill Co. homepage and was very helpful in providing additional family info. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, CATHY!!! John B. and Duncan M. GRAHAM were listed with their families on the 1880 Hill Co. census, but none of William A. GRAHAM's family was listed. If anyone has any further information on these GRAHAM or HAMMEL families, I would appreciate hearing from you. John.
