    3. James, and all... I have heard that ftm does something like this... I have never understood why *anyone* would purchase the stuff from FTM, when it is just a collection of files submitted by people.. most of the info that you can get for free on rootsweb or by querying on message forums, etc. Whenever you gather data like this, you should always "take it with a grain of salt"...and try to confirm sources, etc. I have my gedcom on rootsweb world connect. I also have a family tree maker homepage. As far as others profitting from my hard work.... well... if the only way that I can keep that from happening, is not putting what I have found out there, for others to find me... then, for me, it's an acceptable trade off. I gave found many cousins, and many have found me, because when they do a search, they find me from what I have put out there on the web. I guess if I was a hardcore researcher, who had personally documented every bit of the data that I had... had spent years in courthouses and libraries.... then I would feel differently. I would be more "possessive" or protective of my hard work... and probably publish a book. But, much of what I have gathered, I have gathered off the web, from others; from world connect, from message forums, from ftm, from ancestry.com. I am sure that I have some erroneous info...and I have that on my gedcom...that you should try to verify the info yourself. I have tried with my most direct lines, to find sources and documentation (and direct descendants) that can verify or confirm what I have gathered. I also have on my gedcom a request that if you know of any additions or corrections to my "work" that you notify me. I don't want to knowingly publish incorrect data... So, in this age of computers... it must be a decision we have to make. When you put something on the web, it's out there for people to "steal". If what you have is something that you don't want "stolen", then you shouldn't put it out there. 3. Barbara and ALL: Be advised that anything you put on a FamilyTree Maker site, whether in Gedcom form or photo's or text is usually copied by FTM, and that material becomes the CD information that is sold back to you at ridiculously inflated prices. A lot of people lately on other lists have been raising this issue with FTM, and the response from FTM has been less than responsive. So, if you do not mind someone else taking your hard work and profiting off of it, at your expense, then feel free to use FTM, or some of the other sites to include Rootsweb then by all means use them. But, know anything you put out there is fair game for them to resell, documented or undocumented. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara Pike" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, April 03, 2001 1:50 AM Subject: Re: Photo site (Stevens Family of Hill Co) > John... 3. Hi! Haven't written in a while, so I thought I'd remind you all about our Hill County Photo Site. http://www.zing.com/album/?id=4293428835 We are up to almost 200 photos, postcards, etc. If anyone has any photos, or any other scanned image they would like to submit, please contact me, and I'll give you the directions on how to scan your image to get it to me to put on the site. I WISH that the site was easier to navigate...and that there was an index, with the complete captions, etc. But, I don't have any control over that. I have put "instructions" on the first page. I have put the submissions into 3 basic groups...the first being "school" photos, the second being "family" photos, and the last being "miscellaneous" submissions. I have tried to caption them with the main surname first, so that you can find your "group" in the drop down menu a "little easier"..and I've tried to keep the family groups, and submitters together. I have written to ZING with my comments about an index page...we'll see if it gets anywhere (ha ha!!) Photo sites are pretty slow to get around in, especially if you have a slow internet connection. That is the nature of the "beast", since good images are rather large files, which take long to download. The upside is, we have some really nice old photos for your enjoyment! So, please take a look, and if you have anything at all you'd like to submit, please e-mail me! Barbara Craddock Pike

    3. I need help. Mary A. Brooks married Joseph Daniel 'Dan' Cunningham Dec. 22, 1897 in Hill Co. The marriage ended in divorce in 1913. I am wondering what happened to Mary after the div. And there were three children: Joseph Marion who ended up in Calif. where he died in the 1980s; Lucretia or Lucrecia and Elsie. I have heard the girls never married. I don't know. If any Brooks' are somewhat kin to Mary and know what became of her and her girls, please let me know. Her ex, called Dan Cunningham, got custody of Joseph Marion. Mary got custody the girls. Mind you, there are numerous Cunningham's in Hill Co. Most originated from Tennessee and not of my Cunningham line. My Cunningham line comes from James who hailed from England, arr. at the coast in 1835. He married 1st Rebecca Fitzgerald. Of thier 9 children 3 wound up in Hill Co. from the Fayette Co. area. 1. Obed R. and wife Mary. I know a bit of them from newly found Cunningham kin. They were raising 2 Hammonds kids, orphaned and the ch. of Obed's sister Margaret and her husb. Hosea Hammonds. 2. Frank and wife Emily. I know a bit of them from new found Cunningham kin. Also raising 2 Hammonds kids, orph. and ch. of Frank's sis. Margaret and her husb. Hosea Hammonds. 3. Nancy who 1st marri. Archie Ray and had daus. Mary who marr. Sam Trya and Susan E. The marr. ended in divorce. Nancy then married John G. Duncan. They ended up in Hill Co. She and John were raising her nephew John Hammonds, son of her sis. Margaret and her husb. Hosea Hammonds. As for the Hammonds/Hammons: Margaret Cunningham and Hosea marr. in Lavaca Co. No one knows where for sure they ended up. One rumor is Bosque Co. I don't know. But Hosea rode off one day and never returned. His horse did, however. An investigation turned up nothing. Later, while her infant John, Margaret dropped dead in the doorway of her home. I want to know more of: 1. Mary's marr. to Sam Tyra and more infor. on thier fam. Desc. Mitch Tyra is a busy man and has declined to help. 2. I'd like to know if anyone knows anything on Susan Ray. 3. Is there any other info. on the Hammonds/Hammons. I have some info. from desc. newly found but even thier info. is little since the 5 Hammonds chil. were orphaned so young. John was just a baby. And the dau. Sally isn't as well documented as her sisters and brothers, though she on at least one census. Could she have died young? Anything extra that can be learned of these families will be appreciated. Betty Wingo, Roy Bessire, and others have been helpful. There are still holes here and there. I am desc. from James Cunningham's second marr. to Lucinda J. Bolton Jones with whom he had 10 kids...I am desc. from their son C. M. Neal who married Ola Brown... and from their dau. Hazel who married C. C. 'Bill' Butler....and thier son C. K. 'Ted" Butler. James Cunningham poss. died in either McLennan or Hill Co.'s. No one knows or even where he is buried. Lucinda lived with a few of her younger and unmarried children in the Tyson area after the turn of the century. Those ch. were my gr=grandpa Neal Cunningham, his sis Tabitha, bro.'s Albert and Marion. Teresa Parrish
