Williams ATHENS -- Services for Gladys Lewis Williams, 79, Athens, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at West Athens Baptist Church with the Rev. James Greer officiating. Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery under direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens. Mrs. Williams died Thursday in an Athens nursing home. (Green Oaks Nursing Home) She was born Jan. 11, 1915, in Turkey Creek community near Athens to Jeff Erl and Elvina Matilda Brown Lewis. She was a lifelong resident of Henderson County and worked many years in the nursery department of First Baptist Church. She was a member of West Athens Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Sanford Williams in 1976. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Ray Shumate, Athens; one brother, Estes Lewis, Austin; one sister, Edwina Burrill, Austin; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. If desired, memorials may be made to West Athens Baptist Church. Athens Review Added by B.
