My ancestors, John Shultz DAMRON and Sally DAUGHERTY (or Dougherty or Dougharty or Dority or however many ways it can be spelled) are found on the 1850 Henderson Co Federal Census (John is listed as John L). Family story has it that they were married in Texas in 1847 by Squire Wilson. I assume that a "squire" was a justice of the peace. I cannot find the county they were married in, nor the exact date. I'm not sure if Henderson was a "burned out" courthouse or not. I know by 1860 they were in Kaufman Co, but I think that is because Kaufman Co had broken off of Henderson by then. Does anyone know how to find a marriage c. 1847 in Henderson Co? Sincerely, Cheri Mello
