. I found info that Robert L. Willis was a notary in Alee. Did you mean ALEY?
My Henderson county family was Willis. My great grandfather, William A. His father Robert Leon and Robert's father, V. Williford Willis. They are all on the 1900 census. I don't know when they came to Henderson Co. They were on the 1870 census in Ark. before William was born in 1875. Cannot find them on a 1880, maybe they were in Ok. So, sometime between 1875 and 1900 is when they arrived. I found info that Robert L. Willis was a notary in Alee.
I'm looking for information on the family of Clarence Ezekiel Weatherford who married Georgia Vienna Gartman. I'm not sure of the year, but both were native to Henderson County in the Athens area. The Gartmans have done a family history, but the Weatherfords haven't to my knowledge. They were my paternal grandparents. Clarence was the son of William Weatherford, name of his mother is unknown to me. He had several brothers and sisters. Clarence died in 1985, I believe. Any assistance would be a help. Nancy Weatherford Eddy Murchison, TX
Good evening, everyone, For the past 13 years I have researched Franklin Cook who died 1870 in Henderson County, his 15 children and their descendants. My husband is the 6th generation of Cooks to have lived in Henderson County so there are many maternal lines to work on as well. The maternal surnames are McDougal, Starr, Darby, Miles, Richmond. The collateral surnames are too many to list here but I think half the people who ever set foot in Henderson Co. are kin! For the past few months I've been putting my information on a little web site: http://www.ourfamilyties.us where there are FGS, obits, tombstone pictures and family pictures. I'd especially like for you to take a look on this web page: http://www.ourfamilyties.us/photoalbum/mclauchlinphotos/mclaughlinkatealbum.htm to see if you recognize anyone. The pictures are from an album I bought at Earl & Geddes (Morris) McLaughlin's estate sale that I think had belonged to Earl's mother, Kate Cook. Kate was a first cousin to my husband's great-grandfather, John Marion Cook. If you visit, I hope you find useful information. If we are kin, I hope you will contact me. Janet Cook

Regular Meeting of East Texas Genealogical Society, Tyler, TX Saturday, October 8, 2005 Tyler Public Library - Taylor Auditorium 2:00 p.m. Speaker: Marynell Bryant Program: "Using DNA to Identify Your Family Lineage" Marynell Bryant, Genealogical Researcher and Lecturer, will be sharing the history of genealogical DNA sequencing and surname studies, along with an explanation of scientific terms and test procedures. She says the term "genetic genealogy" may be new to the vocabulary but its significance to family researchers is growing daily. Genealogical DNA testing primarily involves the Y-chromosome which is passed from father to son through the generations. The significance to genealogists participating in the DNA surname studies is finding other individuals whose DNA matches closely and then comparing the lineages to identify the most recent common ancestor. DNA surname studies are useful not only to the male participants but to any researcher who has a connection to that particular surname. Marynell says that genealogists can identify, prove, and extend their family lineages through this new scientific breakthrough. The implications for what genetic genealogy can help family researchers achieve are exciting and challenging. The next few years will see an even greater growth in the number of DNA surname projects as genes actually provide proof of our lineages. Marynell is DNA Surname Project administrator for Rainey group study; current president of Hopkins County Genealogical Society; instructor of genealogical courses at Paris Junior College; past President of Texas State Genealogical Society, 1990-1993, and lecturer for genealogical society meetings and seminars in Texas and Arkansas. Following a short refreshment period, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Computer Interest Group of the East Texas Genealogical Society will meet. Beverly Odom will present a program on "A Comparison of Census Records on Ancestry.com and Heritage Quest". Information on upcoming programs can be found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txetgs/meetings.html East Texas Genealogical Society represent six counties which are Anderson, Gregg, Henderson, Panola, Rusk and Smith counties.
