    3. Regular Meeting of East Texas Genealogical Society, Tyler, TX Saturday, January 14, 2006 Tyler Public Library - Taylor Auditorium 2:00 p.m. Speaker: Judy Knight Program: "Interlibrary Loans for Genealogists" Everyone has found a book about an elusive ancestor in a library 500 miles away, but they will only copy a couple of pages. Find out how you can have this book at your home or local library to peruse at your leisure through Interlibrary Loan Programs. Our speaker, Judy Knight, will give us the best places to request interlibrary loans and tell of her experiences with each place. Judy is a graduate of East Texas State University in Commerce and a retired elementary school teacher. Judy is married to Willis Knight, a photographer for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. They have two grown sons and one grandson. Her love of genealogy began as a child and she started activity researching about 35 years ago. She has a certificate for the First Families of Tennessee for my ancestor who was a resident of Tennessee before 1796, an Oregon Pioneer Certificate for my ancestor who traveled the Oregon Train in 1853, three certificates for Civil War Families of Tennessee and a Gone to Texas certificate. She has also received a Texas First Families certificate for her husband. She has traveled extensively doing family history research. She is Past President of the Mid-Cities Genealogical Society and currently District 11 Representative and President Elect for Texas State Genealogical Society. She has written two books on her family, Sharing My Heritage, Allen Family History and Historic W.V.S. Allen Cemetery. The second book received a first place award in the Dallas Genealogical Society Writing Awards Division 4 in 2004. She was involved in the process of having her family cemetery named as a Historic Texas Cemetery at 2001 and received a certificate for her work from the Texas Historical Commission. This cemetery is just south of Haslet in Tarrant County. As chairman of the cemetery's 125th Anniversary Celebration she organized a special celebration and reunion that was held in October 2005. Following a short refreshment period, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Computer Interest Group of the East Texas Genealogical Society will meet. Scott Fitzgerald will present a program on "Finding Books by Looking at sites as WorldCat on Heritage Quest, Abebooks, or Ebay". Information on upcoming programs can be found at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txetgs/meetings.html East Texas Genealogical Society represent six counties which are Anderson, Gregg, Henderson, Panola, Rusk and Smith counties. 3. The IF Barton and SE Panther family Bible is in with my mothers records. The website used to have her name with this data do not know why it changed. I do not know Dorothy but will check. Sylvania Elizabeth "Betty" Laymance Panther Barton was my mom's grandmother and she was raised for many years after the death of her mother by Betty and Frank Barton married 10 Oct 1883. She remained close and while in High school helped take care of Betty she is mentioned in the will of SE Barton. She spent much time with her grandparents and talked often about the time she spent with them and the stories that Betty told her as they walked the mile and a half each way to church. Thomas Elizabeth Panther lived with her mother and in 1880 she was living with her parents Jacob Regan Laymance and Amanda Ethyl Garner. Whom she moved back in with after the death of Thomas Panther in Nov 1875. 215 219 Laymance Ra_ern W M 45 Farmer GA -- -- Laymance Amandy W F 42 W Kp house MO -- -- Laymance Sadveney W F 22 D Wid Kp house TX GA MO (Sylvania E Panther) Laymance Marget W F 21 D TX GA MO Laymance Mary W F 14 D TX GA MO Laymance Tibby J. Not sure why Tommie is not living with them she may be with another relative. I did not see William Green Barton in the census and the Panther family lived across the road from them. The road was a waggon track that ended at the Barton place as late as the 1920 census which says enumeration stops here after HR Parker who had purchased the Barton Farm. It is possible the enumerator skipped this road and if Tommie were living with her other grandmother who was widowed they were not counted. Martha Panther would have been 56 and all her children would have married, Tommie may have been there as a companion we may never know exactly where she was in 1880. I am interested in what happened with the siblings of Thomas Panther I have located 2 of his sisters but the name Panther just vanishes from Henderson County where they are in the 1870 Census. Betty finally told everyone that if Tommie was not welcome at their house then not to bother coming to hers. That put an immediate end to any problems. When submitting cemetery records, please give exact location of cemetery, date copied and name of copier. PUBLICATION: To be considered for publication, an item or article should have a reliable reference and should not be based entirely on "tradition." We do not wish to publish items from books now in print, however, such references may be used as footnotes to clarify sources. Please be certain all material is legible. Xerox copies can be used, but typewritten articles are preferred to avoid errors in transcribing handwritten material. Please include your name, address, e-mail address and day-time telephone number with all material submitted. The editor must retain the right to accept or reject materials and to edit those chosen for publications. Credit will be given to each contributor. If requested, material may be returned, otherwise it will become property of the Society. QUERIES: Queries submitted by members will be published as space is available. Please type or print each query on a separate sheet of paper. Capitalize all surnames and include at lease one date and place. Limit your query to 8 or 10 typed lines and carefully recheck for accuracy. SUBMISSION DEADLINES: Spring issue - January 15 Summer issue - March 15 Fall issue - June 15 Winter issue - September 15 ETGS welcomes any suggestions for improving our publications. We also welcome constructive criticism. Let us know what you would like to see published. Please send all material to: Scott Fitzgerald, Editor (e-mail: scottfitzgerald@tyler.net). ETGS does not assume responsibility for errors of fact or opinions expressed by contributors. However, we strive to publish reliable source material, and errors will be corrected when submitted in writing. ETGS POLICY ON THE REPLACEMENT OF PERIODICALS The East Texas Genealogical Society strives to publish a maximum of genealogical information at minimum costs, in order that the Society's publications may be widely available to all who are interested. Consistent with this objective, certain restraints are necessary in regard to replacement of periodicals, which were not received by the intended recipients. Hence, if a member, institution or other organization fails to receive a copy of THE EAST TEXAS FAMILY RECORDS, the quarterly, ETGS must be notified within six months of the publication date of that issue. Otherwise, the intended recipient will be supplied a replacement copy only if copies are still available and only at the published price. The ETGS Newsletter, "The Bulletin," primarily carries news of short-term interest and back issues will not normally be supplied. If there is a special need for back issues, the recipient will be quoted a price for which they may be ordered. PUBLICATION DATES ARE: MARCH 31, JUNE 30, SEPTEMBER 30, and DECEMBER 31 of each year. Scott Fitzgerald, Vice-President
