I would like to know where I might find information on the people and the history of the Flat Creek Community of Henderson Co., TX. I've checked the census records but I am searching for more information. I think it is southeast of Athens. My great grandfather, Wesley Roby moved there from Benton Co., AR prior to 1880 with his younger siblings. The later generations resided there until the 1960's or early 1970's. I have a picture of the Flat Creek students of various ages and my Wesley Roby is among the students. It only lists his name and the names of the students. I assume that the picture was taken about 1900 or before. Wesley's children were in the picture which includes Thomas Franklin Roby. I have a later picture of the Flat Creek students which also includes Nina Hood with some of her siblings. Thomas and Nina were married in 1915. They were my grandparents. Any information would be appreciated. Pam Gregory Carrollton, TX
Cheri, The Handbook of Texas will give you some information on Trinidad. Just type Trinidad in the search column. http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/index.new.html According to The Handybook for Genealogists Kaufman County was created 26 Feb 1848 from Henderson County. Hope this helps. Jo __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! Mail - only $35 a year! http://personal.mail.yahoo.com/

Posted on: Henderson County, Tx Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Henderson/11551 Surname: Eberhart, Jordan, Durham, Scott ------------------------- If you are still researching this, let me know. I have very little info, but am trying to find more. Thanks!
Once again, dear list, you have been great in giving me leads and other ideas to pursue. So I pursued them and now I'm back to pick your brains :) My family story says that my DAMRONs came to TX in 1844 (in 1840 they were in Newton Co, MO and in 1850 they were in Henderson Co TX). Actually, I found one story that says they went to Ellis Co in 1844 (wasn't formed until 1849), another story says my 2G grandmother was born in Kaufman Co, TX (on 8 Feb 1850--that could be true), and another story says that she was born in Trinidad, Kaufman Co. I looked at a modern road atlas (it's hard to tell the county lines on it), but it looks like Trinidad is in HENDERSON Co to me. Which county is it in now? What county was it in 1844-1850? Also, my great-grandmother told the story (that has been handed down) that the DAMRONs left Trinidad, Kaufman Co for Mexico, but got only as far as San Antonio where the Mr. Copeland and his wagon train headed for CA, so off they went. Also, there seems to be a story running around that says the DAMRONs, SHULTZ', and possibly the DAUGHERTY's (or various spellings) were Mercer Colonists. Any ideas or resources on that? I think I need a week in Salt Lake!!! Thank you once again for all your help! Sincerely, Cheri Mello Torrance, CA

I am looking for some information and I hope someone will be able to help me with. My ggg grandfather Rev. Robert Richardson Morrow organized several Baptist churchs in Anderson Co. ( the Judson Baptist Church and the Pisgah Baptist Chruch) he also organized the First Church of Athens in 1858. I do not know if it was the first church, the first Baptist Church are if that was the name of it. My info says he served as pastor of the Old Nickle Church on Avenue A. What I am trying to find is the First Church and the Old Nickle Church two different churches if so where was the First Church located and are there any pictures of eather of these churches. Thank you for your help, Sandy Williams Clardy
The marriage book that I have says Henderson Co. was created from Nacogdoches and Houston Counties on April 27, 1846 by an act of the TX legislature, it encompassed what is now Henderson, Kaufman, Van Zandt, Wood, Rockwall, and most of Rains Co. It was finally reduced to its present size on Jan. 28, 1850. Its first Co. seat was Buffalo, then Centerville, and finally Athens. I don't know when the courthouse was built, but I believe I read somewhere that there were 3 different courthouses in Athens. According to J. J. Faulk's History of Henderson County published in 1929, the first marriage license was issued at Buffalo on Sept. 16, 1846.
