There seems to be some confusion about this one unit - 2nd Texas Cavalry, Company F., W.P. Lane's Rangers, Capt Sam J. Richardson Commander. The Company was formed in Marshall, Texas April 19, 1861. Capt. Sam R. Richardson was elected Captain and the Company was named in honor of Maj. W.P. Lane, a worthy citizen of Marshall who distinguished himself in many hard-fought battles for Texas Independance. This was the Company that W.W. Heartsill was in when he wrote his Journal. Col. W.P. Lane commanded the 1st Texas Partisan Rangers. We do not have a listing for the Companies of the 1st Texas Partisan Rangers. There is a W.P. Lane, Jr. listed in the 2nd Texas Cavalry, Co. F and it is noted that he was transfered to Col W.P. Lane's Regt - his Uncle. I don't mind doing look-ups in our Confederate Soldiers Index, our Cemetery Index, or any of our other files. I notice by the names on the News Letter that I have done "Look-ups: for many of you already. Jimmy
