    3. Old Friendship Cemetery Harrison County, Texas Late January, 1996 Old Friendship Cemetery is located on the Hallsville road, north of Noonday, north of LaGrone's Chapel. It is on private property; but the young man who owns the place was gracious enough to lead my friend and me through his back yard, around a fenced pen, and over the hill where his cattle are pastured. He opened a wire gate, and helped us to enter the overgrown burial ground. No animals have been grazing there, for the protection of the cemetery; and brambles and vicious briars, tall grasses, and creeping underbrush have intertwined, making walking almost impossible. The owner became interested with us, overcoming his natural reluctance to disturb a burial ground; and it was only because of his good help that we were able to find and read several of the stones. Some could only be read by making chalk rubbings. Most of the stones had broken, and a few had been grown over, and were found only by probing the dirt. While I stood imprisoned by briars, the landowner and my lady friend dug the dirt away with their hands, made the sometimes necessary rubbings, and dictated the inscriptions to me when they could read them. It was a real adventure. We were not able to find two stones that are locked too tightly in the brush. The owner's two sons told of seeing them in the past. The ones we were able to read are as follows: Edgar, son of G.E. and E.D. Allen Born Jun_ 28, 1894 Died Nov. 30, 1898 Missourie Page, dau of Albert and Martha Coleman. Born May 11, 1862. Died October 3, 1882. Martha Bell Wife of J.H. Croft Born October 26, 1860. Died Nov. 4, 1888. A foot marker initialed MBC. A double wide marker: Martha M. & Albert W. Coleman 1835-1918 1826-1899 Foot marker initialed AWC. Cast Iron markers, fenced: W.D. Roberts Born April 28, 1840, in Malibou, California. Died November 25, 1866. Bessie E., wife of George J. Roberts. Born February 20, 1822. Died October 29, 1888. These are the only stones we were able to read. There are probably at least two that we were not able to find.
