Hi Harrison County Searchers! Recently Rootsweb put in place a SPAM blocker - techie term for keeping out all that e-mail garbage like you get in your mail box every day. That's working very well. Today I got a notice from Tim Pierce, the volunteer sysadmin. Now in place is an HTML blocker and an attachment blocker. I've never said too much about this since messages sent in HTML and attachments have not been a problem for us DUNSMOOR searchers. Some of the newer e-mail programs like Outlook Express can send e-mail messages in HTML code, and that can cause problems for some folks. Likewise, sending attachments to e-mail lists can cause problems, and the new blocker takes care of everything. This is what will happen: When a poster sends something to a mailing list written in HTML, or with a non-plain-text attached file, the list server will send the poster's message back to them, with a note at the bottom explaining the plain-text requirement at RootsWeb. As listowner, I'll get a copy, too, so I'll know what's going on. If you need to know how to turn off HTML in your mail program, go to http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm and follow the instructions. Should you have any other questions, you may ask me, or go to to the Rootsweb Help Desk http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~help/index.htm . The Mail List Help Desk is http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~help/help/maillist1.htm You can even find out how to start your own mail list! Hope it's cooler where you are than where I am! Gail
