News from the Harrison County Genealogical Society - I went to the meeting yesterday, to hear the talk by Reed Matthews, President of the Ark-La-Tex Genealogical Association. He drew a laugh or two, when he talked about this "hobby" we have, and its inherent curiosity. We bother people we don't know, we visit people we don't know, we travel all across the country (maybe around the world), and some of us send a lot of e-mail to people we don't know. We walk the stacks in libraries, hoping to find just the book that has ALL our family in it! Reed also talked a lot about how far this medium has come, since it all broke loose in 95-96, and how the Internet makes the world smaller. And there's a new book available from the museum - Jimmy and Patsy Oliphant's new _Harrison County Consolidated Roll of Scholastic Census - 1912_, $22.00. For more information go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~txharris/hcgensoc.htm And I finally uploaded selected articles from the September issue of the HCGS newsletter. As usual, there is a lot of terrific information, and you just might find the names of some of your ancestors there. One of our list members submitted an article about her Gorman family reunion; there's a narrative about the trip that Kimberly and Ruth Briggs took this summer, through 5 states in 6 days; and I wrote a piece on the new computer in the museum. Edna Sorber is the editor, and she welcomes any articles dealing with Harrison County history or genealogy. See http://www.rootsweb.com/~txharris/hcgs4.htm Of course, the best thing is to join the Genealogical Society, so you can have your own complete newsletter, mailed to your house. It's good to see some action on the list, and I hope you've found some connections with the names that have been posted lately. Remember that this list, as all lists at Rootsweb, are archived and searchable. Go to http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Have a good week! Gail
