Has anyone seen my JOHN!!!!! on the 1850 or 1860 censusof Harrison County????. He would be around 17 or 18 years old. He was born Oct 1, 1844 in Mississippi and was a farmer. He may be living with relatives. My g-grandpa , JOHN HOWELL COCKE was first in the "Clough and Hill Avengers" and then in "W. P. Lane's Texas Rangers", civil war units that started in Marshall, Texas. He also served in the Ranger unit with a HENRY B. COCKE who I believe may be his brother. His parents were JAMES WHEELER COCKE and CAROLINE ELIZABETH HOWELL COCKE A picture of him is in the book " FOURTEEN HUNDRED AND 91 DAYS in the Confederate Army" a journal kept by W.W. Heartstill .
