    1. SMITH, Frances Ann
    2. Amelia Forrest Bogard
    3. Frances Ann "Fannie" SMITH married Elisha King FORREST in Harrison Co. TX 13 July 1864. Pension records and census show she was born in Alabama, but family tradition says she came to Texas from Tennessee; another family record shows her born in Mississippi. I quote from a family member's letter: "Grandmother Forrest's mother died when she was very young. Her (Fannie SMITH's) father was an overseer of the slaves for a plantation owner. Grandmother never lived with him--she lived with an older sister. After she married Grandfather (Elisha King) Forrest, during the war, she brought her little brother to Marshall, (Harrison Co.) Tx, to live with Grandpa's mother. All the men had gone to the war. Grandpa's mother lived in a log cabin with an open hall." Aunt Jewel Forrest Rabb told me that Fannie's last name was spelled "Schmidt, the German Way" originally. Elisha King FORREST had three brothers: Calvin, Perry, and Richard. Calvin and Perry stayed in Harrison Co. Elisha King and Richard moved on to Coryell Co. Elisha King and "Fannie" SMITH FORREST later moved to Taylor Co. and are buried in Abilene. Who were Frances Ann SMITH's parents? Who was the married sister? Who was the younger brother? What happened to him? Did he have descendants? Are there any of them in Harrison County?
