Even us folks up north know that Nacogdoches and Natchitoches were the names of two Indian twins who were born to the chief of a tribe which lived on the Sabine River. The twin brothers did not get along and it was feared that one would kill the other. Their father decided the only way they would both survive was to separate them. He sent Natchitoches a days ride to the East to line and Nacogdoches a days ride to the west thereby preserving the peace.
