    2. Bruce C. Cook
    3. If you are looking for a way to pass a weekend and would like to contribute to the Harrison Co. GenWeb page, we have a cemetery just waiting for someone to check and update it. I have Marshall City Cemetery ready. It is just waiting for someone to volunteer to go out and bring it up to date so that it is ready to post to the GenWeb page. If you would be willing to undertake this project, please email me and I will tell you how to download a listing of this cemetery. Or, if you have a particular cemetery that you are interested in that is not already on the Harrison Co webpage, let me know. We will try and get a copy of the listing from the museum that you can check and update. Most of the lists in the museum files are at least 10 years old, so we would like to get them updated for everyone's benefit. Hug a tombstone today! Bruce C. 3. Hi all If you are looking for a Conf. pension in Louisiana, the index to them is also online in the LaGenWeb Archives. The url for that is <http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/lafiles.htm> The link for the Conf. Pension is at the bottom of the table so you have to pass all the parishes before you get there. You can submit a request for a copy from the State Archives in Baton Rouge. Instructions are on the page. Hope this helps some of you. 1. Confederate Pension Site
    2. Gail Brown
    3. If you have Confederate ancestors, you might find a pension file for them through this site http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/lobby/cpi/cpindex.htm You can search the database with a surname and/or county and send an e-mail request. The charge is $.10 per page and $1.00 minimum. I've just requested two files for possible ancestors of my husband. There is one more cemetery online - Young - and more to come soon. Thanks to Rusty, Sue, and anyone else who is helping this project, whether you're reading a cemetery, or computerizing the data. Check out http://www.rootsweb.com/~txharris/hcem.htm I've just come back from a week in Michigan, with my own personal research, and saw tombstones for just about all of my ancestors who lived there. The available cemetery listings, while not online, were helpful in finding the graves, but a personal visit revealed monuments in 2 cases and a correction in place of death for another. While my first choice would always be to visit a cemetery in person, that's not always possible, and an online listing runs a close second. If you want to be involved in the cemetery listing project for Harrison Co., drop a line to me, or to Rusty at bccook@nh.ultranet.com or on a national level, check out the Tombstone Transcription Project at http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/ Have a great day! 3. John - I heard from Sue in Marshall and she was able to get a listing for Piney Cemetery from the museum. She is snailmailing it to me, along with a couple of others. As soon as it gets here, I will put it into my database, and then get a listing to you. There are several ways I can get it to you. Are you running Windows-95? Do you have Word 97 on your computer. The answers to this will help me work out the most efficient way to get it to you. All the best, Rusty p.s. Sorry to send this back to the list, but couldn't get it to go using jlowery@aol.com - maybe the new email software I'm using that I'm not completely familiar with yet <g>. 3. Just another message from your listmom - One address has bounced several times today - it's not yours, or you wouldn't be getting this one :) So ... just a reminder to please unsub and resub if your e-mail address changes, or at least let me know. Also - summer's soon upon us, and that means vacation! It's not a good idea to announce to the world (or even this list) that you're going to be out of town for a specific period of time. I know that everyone on this list is completely trustworthy, but just to be on the safe side - if you're going to be gone for any length of time this summer and don't want to arrive home to a mailbox crammed full of messages, you have a couple of options - Unsub and then resub when you return, OR unsub and resub to the digest mode while you're gone. This is a fairly quiet list, so even if you left for a couple of weeks you probably wouldn't have that many messages on your return. 'Course you could always get a laptop w/modem and stay connected for your whole vacation! But that wouldn't really be a vacation, would it?! Best of luck to all, Gail

    3. Hi James, You're in luck! Forest Hill is one of 5 cemetery listings now online! http://www.rootsweb.com/~txharris/forest.htm Others are found from here http://www.rootsweb.com/~txharris/hcem.htm At least 3 more cemeteries are soon to come online, and we're hoping for more. As Rusty posted this morning, it just takes somebody who might be coming in to the county to visit/research and has a little extra time they can use to read a cemetery - a great project for a family! We could take the lists already done and 'puterize 'em, but we're trying to do this in a way that benefits the genealogy society as well. Gail Coordinator for Harrison Co. 3. Diana - His is not one of the names in our database yet, but then we are just getting started. You should check from time to time on the Harrison Co USGenWeb page, which is where we are posting what we have. Also, on that page I believe that there is a "lookup" list, where you can ask someone to check the book(s) that have been done on the cemeteries of Harrison Co. the URL for the webpage is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txharris/harrison.htm Bruce C. 2. Gail Brown
    3. Anyone in the Marshall area this week-end is invited to come to the Harrison County Genealogical Society meeting at 1:30 pm on Saturday, at the Harrison County Historical Museum, downtown on the square. The speaker will be Dr. Jere L. Jackson, Department of History at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. Recently the museum has been the recipient of a new computer and Internet access from the Center for East Texas Studies, which Dr. Jackson directs. The Center's mission is to promote all aspects of the heritage of East Texas. Check out http://www.cets.sfasu.edu and follow the links to Past Port, which provides online help in local history. His program will be about the project and how it can benefit those doing research in the East Texas area, particularly in Harrison County. Membership in the Harrison County Genealogical Society is not required for attendance but is certainly encouraged. The new query system has been improved once again! It now has world search capabilities, among other things; so if you haven't posted a query since March 2, please do it now - http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Harrison I don't know how much longer I'll leave queries posted before March 2, 1998, online. Two more cemeteries coming online soon! Gail Harrison County TXGenWeb coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~txharris/harrison.htm

    3. Hi Gail - Thanks for these new addresses. I am interested to find any Orphans Court Records for GORMAN, 1873 or following. Mary (Delafield) GORMAN was widowed, we think in December 1872 (seeking proof of date of death of James W. GORMAN) --- and was left with four children under the age of 5. Do you know if those records have been transcribed? Can anyone help? Many thanks in advance. Also interested in any possible surviving Bible Records mentioning James (1810-187__) and/or Ann GORMAN (1810-1865), or James and Martha "Patsy" GORMAN of Marshall, Texas in 1870 census. Thank you sincerely. Norma Gorman Wright
