Amy, I have a Marshall BRASSELL married to Sally L. CANNON in Marshall, Harrison Co., TX. on June 18, 1852. According to the information I have the marriage took place at the home of Sally's father, Henry B. CANNON. Henry B. CANNON is my gggrandfather. BRASSELL (spelling on marriage certificate) Do you have any info on this BRASSELL? I have searched the census in Harrison and have never been able to find them. Thanks for checking for me. Pat in Los Angeles.

Those are the ones. Lenora Thisby Hill was the daughter of my gggrampa, Thomas Chappell Hill. I have a good bit of material on them too. Just because they were so closely tied to my families. JD and Leonora were 1st cousins. I have photos of both. I can send you what info I have if you'd like it. JD was a state senator of Texas and his picture was hanging in the cap. in Austin for many years. Don't know if it is still there. Elizabeth Gilliam Davenport was the sister of Lenora's mother, Amie Wallace Davenport Hill. Her father was Jonathan Davenport. I have the Davenport family Bible. Here are the entries: The front pages are missing up to the 14th chapter of Genesis. There is a title page at the beginning of the New Testament. Printed & Published by M. Carey. Hi ya'll from South Carolina: Food's got the same name here, but sure isn't fixed the same. Barbecue ain't barbecue (they gotta put some kind of vinegar in it). They call something chicken bog that should be good ole chicken and dressin' entree. One thing that really bothers me is they mispronounce - right here in the South - basically where the south all began, that delicious nut that makes such a wonderful pie that we all love so much. I want to tell them I don't have any pee cans, but I do have a bathroom if they need one. Miss you guys. I am so tired of trying to locate any Wilson, Hill or Downs descendants of my William/Zachariah Hill/Dr. William R. Downs line in Harrison/Panola (Elysian Fields/Waskom areas), that I am going to try to throw out names that some of Zachariah's girls married and see if I get a bite: Harriet L. Hill (this was William Hill's daughter, but want to try it in too) b. c1830 married William Barnes first then Stephen Terry second (Stephen committed suicide in 1886). Harriett Nettie Hill (b. 03/19/1877) married Mr. James R. Barbour (I have copies of photos of these two); Ruby Hill (b. 09/12/1878) married C. G. H. Wheless; Other surnames that married Hill daughters in or around Harrison County were SURLES, JONES (guess I better be a little more specific about Jones - Douglas M. Jones; ALEXANDER; BOMAR; down the line a little there's even some WASKOMs and SCOTTs. Let me hear from you guys. What, no cream peas and cornbread in California?! Well, at least there's coffee :) Anybody else have favorite East Texas foods? Blackberry cobbler? Buttermilk pie? (Sorry, Jan.) I think it's just quiet because everybody (in Texas anyway) is just too hot to think. Even so, this is a really good time for listmembers to share their lines - several new people have joined recently, so jump right in and throw out some surnames. You never know when you might find a cousin. I know the folks at the research library will be glad to have your family file - in fact, I'd recommend that people do that wherever they research. It's like leaving a little trail of crumbs for a cousin to follow. And your help with Noonday cemetery is certainly appreciated, too. Right now, I'd be most happy to trade you some cream peas and cornbread for some of that wonderful California weather! Dear Fellow Harrison County Researchers, Just had my 3rd cup of coffee this morning and was thinking that I haven't received a single message in a couple of weeks. Just wanted to make sure I was still subscribed and that you all haven't melted in the heat. Working on putting together a family file for the Historical Library at Marshall, just waiting on some land documents from the state and military information from D. C. and they should be ready to send to Jim. Have anyone else sent them information? Getting the Noonday Cemetery information into the system this morning and wishing I had Cream and Purple Hull peas out here in California. Had 4 meals of them while visiting East Texas last month. Yum, you haven't lived until you've had a meal of cream peas, fresh sliced tomatoes, creamed new potatoes, fried okra, and of course East Texas Cornbread! (Can you tell I am home sick already!) Rusty, Just got home from East Texas. I got about half of NoonDay Cemetery surveyed and have the sunburn to prove it. Plan on finishing the survey on my next trip. Before I start keying it in, wanted to check with you on format. I would like to also include a plot map. Please let me know what format would be preferable to you. John - Not a problem <g>! Hey, and with the heat you have been having down there, I would not have walked the cemetery even. I just needed to know if you still wanted to do it. Why don't you just wait until you have the additions ready too and then send it all to me at once. Otherwise I lose track of where I am [must be old age setting in] and have to go over it all again. Hope all is going well for you and your family. Look forward to hearing from you whenever! And no rush. John - Just wanted to check with you on where we stand with Piney Cemetery? Are you still interested in doing it? [Perhaps you have already started and I'm just not aware of it.] Have you downloaded it from my webpage? If you are still interested and have not yet downloaded it, let me know and I can send you the URL again if you need it. Look forward to hearing from you at your convenience. Hi Harrison County Searchers! Recently Rootsweb put in place a SPAM blocker - techie term for keeping out all that e-mail garbage like you get in your mail box every day. That's working very well. Today I got a notice from Tim Pierce, the volunteer sysadmin. Now in place is an HTML blocker and an attachment blocker. I've never said too much about this since messages sent in HTML and attachments have not been a problem for us DUNSMOOR searchers. Some of the newer e-mail programs like Outlook Express can send e-mail messages in HTML code, and that can cause problems for some folks. Likewise, sending attachments to e-mail lists can cause problems, and the new blocker takes care of everything. This is what will happen: When a poster sends something to a mailing list written in HTML, or with a non-plain-text attached file, the list server will send the poster's message back to them, with a note at the bottom explaining the plain-text requirement at RootsWeb. As listowner, I'll get a copy, too, so I'll know what's going on. If you need to know how to turn off HTML in your mail program, go to http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm and follow the instructions. Should you have any other questions, you may ask me, or go to to the Rootsweb Help Desk http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~help/index.htm . The Mail List Help Desk is http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~help/help/maillist1.htm You can even find out how to start your own mail list! Hope it's cooler where you are than where I am! Gail
