    1. Marshall, TX
    2. Hi Group! I am brand new to the list. I am seeking info on the parents, aunts, uncles, etc. of: Charles Weldon MILAM b 1909 Marshall, Harrison CO TX., raised in LA., reared his family in Dallas, d 15 Dec 1959 Dallas, Dallas CO TX buried Grove Hill Cemetery Dallas. Parents: Thomas R MILAM b 06 March 1877 MO came to TX six months later with his parents and siblings. d 21 Oct 1915 unk. where..buried Greenwood Cemetery, Harrison CO. Aletha/Leatha GILLESPIE MILAM b 31 Jan 1882 unk. where d. 28 Dec 1956 Dallas, Dallas CO TX buried Greenwood Cemetery, Harrison CO. She had a brother, H.C. GILLESPIE still living in Marshall at the time of her death. She may have once been married to a MALONE. I found this information in a Marshall, TX newspaper account and the birth certificate of Charles W Milam. I would like to know where Thomas and Leatha were married and when and more about Leatha's family and where she was born. I also would like to know if there are any descendants still in the area. Leatha gave her son Charles away to a preacher in LA, where he was raised. This was probably about 1915/1916, when he was 6 or 7 yrs old, as his father died in Oct 1915. I do not know who this preacher was or where in LA. Any of this ring a bell? Carole Alamokin@aol.com

    2. A. C. Wilson, III
    3. Gail: Or anyone that is close to an 1850, 1860 and 1870 Harrison County Census in the near future. (I have to send off to Salt Lake City via the LDS center here in Florence to get one here in about three weeks) I need someone to look up a Joseph W. Wilson on those censuses. According to my "Marriage Records west of the Mississippi" CD#227 there was a Joseph W. Wilson who married a Derena Harvey March 19, 1850. Since my great grandfather Henry C. Wilson b. February 9, 1853 died in 1896, I've only been able to find him on one census which was a Caddo Parish, Louisiana census 1880. They lived at state line in Bethany, Louisiana/Texas. The family was enumerated in 1900 at same location on Panola County, Texas. Henry's wife Hannah Frances (Fanny) Hill was from Marshall and her grandparents Dr. William R. Downs was from Elysian Fields, both in Harrison County. Her father Zachariah worked for the railroad yard when it was first building up. Most of my family in several different lines (Crouch/Hosea/Wilson/Farr) were all railroad men including my dad and grandfather, aunts and uncles. That may be where and how they met and explain why I am having such a hard time tracking down the possible nomads. The 1880 census that I do have states that H. C. Wilson's parents were both born in Mississippi. If someone could look for them on those three censuses to see #1 are Joseph and Devena from Mississippi #2 is there a Henry; H. C. ; H or C male child enumerated with them on the 1860 census that is approximately 7 years of age and 17 in 1870. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 3. Hi Harrison County Researchers, Well, we inherited the heat wave from East Texas, it was 105 in the San Francisco area today and since most of us do NOT have air-conditioning, we are melting. Spoke with some distant cousins in Harrison County today and they are finally getting some rain. Hurrah! Could sure use your help on this one.... George Thomas came to Harrison County around 1840 and lived there until his death in 1866. Now for the sixty-four thousand dollar question. Does anyone know or can find out where he is buried? Thanks and stay cool. Jackson Researching: Busby * Cogburn * Griffin * Hickey * Richardson * Thomas

    3. Good Morning Harrison County Cousins, Think we have inherited your heat wave, it was 94 in San Francisco yesterday and most of us do NOT have A/C, but it does cool down pretty good at night. Need a favor. Does anyone have the Harrison County US Census Index for 1860 and 1870? The library here does not have Texas indexes for those years. I'm going to the genealogy library copy some microfilmed census pages and need the page # and ED for: William M. Richardson and wife Judith in 1860 William M. Richardson and wife Judith in 1870 George Thomas in 1860 W. T. Lovelace in 1870 Thanks in advance. Jackson P. S. I tried to find a web site for "Bodacious" but was not successful. East Texas has THE BEST barbecue, bar none. Have any of the East Texans ever eaten at a barbecue place in Nacogdoches on North St. close to the loop that has a big Hereford bull on the roof? Can't think of the name of it...but if you ever get the chance go over here. They serve the meat straight out of the smoker, cut to order, and have a "sodie water" box with ice cold cokes, orange crush, etc... in GLASS bottles. Y'all do know how to eat!

    3. We sure have our priorities right on this list... genealogy, food and rain.. would love to see some of that slow drizzle!!! I agree with a friend who told me it is so dry his catfish are chasing mice. I have blackberries (I picked) in the freezer and I can't complain about genealogy results.. (Trip, I gotta tell em!!) Ya'll, Trip located the cemetery in Longtown, SC where my Darling Jones (b.1759) is resting.. Ruth (volunteer at Harrison Co. Museum) and I drove to SC (to clean up the overgrown cemetery) by way of AL. Didn't get much rest but brought back lots of family info. TOTAL SURPRISE was visiting the "summer" Plantation home of Darling Jones built 1822 and meeting two "cousins" who took us on a historical tour of all the families plantation homes, cemeteries and sites within a 50 mile radius. One had published a book of the history of the area and also listed another cemetery where family members were buried. How fortunate can a person get??? THERE IS A GOD and "TRIP" IS HIS ANGEL!!! I'll try to get back to Harrison Co. "cemetery surfing" when my feet get back on the ground!!!(g) A few of my names are: JONES, (2 lines of "em") EMBERSON, DARLING (just added), NOLAND, RILEY, MORGAN, PREWETT, SMITH, NARRAMORE,Tyre, GIBBS,Vashti Daugherty (wife of Tyre Narramore...desperately need help on these two) Kimberly Parks Rusk, Texas

    2. Gail and list members, Now your talking about my kind of "diet" food. When I visited Marshall last October I brought home a supply of "Bodacious" Barbecue Sauce. I have run out and have to settle for the local stuff. Wont be going to Texas till you guys start getting some cooler weather. Many people talk about the rain here in the Northwest. Actually, we only get about 35 inches a year. It seems like more because it's a slow rain...drizzle. Dallas gets more rain than we do but they get it all in one day. :) It rained here yesterday but then we sent it north to Canada. Today it's about 85 degrees. To hot for me. I would never survive Texas this time of year. If any of you have the following Harrison Co. surnames I would love to hear from you. Thomas Jefferson GREEN 1823-1902 John Wesley BRIGGS 1841-1911 Catherine M.
