    1. [TXGW-NEWS] January County of the Month Announcement
    2. TCF
    3. Hello Everyone, The Surfing Committee is pleased to announce Medina County as the January County of the Month. Congratulations to the coordinator, Margaret Simpson-Meyer. Margaret has included some interesting databases on the Medina site. Researchers can view the Ships and Passenger Lists of early immigrants to the county, see Naturalization Records, tour the Historical Sites of Medina Co., and look to see if their ancestors are included in the Photos of Early Residents. You may visit Medina County here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txmedina/ Honorable Mentions for January are: Anderson, Brooks, Coryell, Haskell, Sabine, and Wise. Congratulations go out to those County Coordinators as well. Sincerely, Peggy Surfing Committee Chair

    1. [TXGW-NEWS] Sponsorship Poll Results
    2. Shirley Cullum
    3. There were 33 votes cast, 17 no votes and 16 yes votes. The decision to not sponsor the amendment was based on the basis of the "most votes wins", so TXGenWeb will not be one of the sponsors to the bylaws amendment. Bettie, Elaine, and I thank everyone who participated in the poll and we encourage more members to express their opinions when a poll is presented. Shirley

    1. Re: [TXGW-NEWS] Reminders - Proposed Amendment Poll & Roll-Call
    2. Shirley Cullum
    3. Please take the time to vote either yes or no on whether the TXGenWeb should sponsor the proposed amendment. The voting ends Tuesday night (Jan. 30) at midnight. Below is a copy of the original message (with email correction). Be sure to send your vote to both Bettie nana321@tatumtel.net and me shirlcullum@sbcglobal.net And, if you haven't checked in for roll-call, please do that by Wednesday night at midnight if you plan on remaining a CC in the TXGenWeb. Roll-call replies should be sent to Elaine mcstumped@suddenlink.net or me shirlcullum@sbcglobal.net. Thanks, Shirley ______________________________________________________________________ We are not encouraging or discouraging this, but would like you all to read the proposed bylaws amendment below. After a few days discussion, please let Shirley & Bettie know if you would be interested in being one of the states that sponsors this amendment by voting yes or no in an email to both by midnight, Tuesday, January 30 Shirley shirlcullum@sbcglobal.net & Bettie nana321@tatumtel.net A majority vote "wins". This does not mean the amendment passes. It just means that TXGenWeb will be one of the sponsors of the amendment. The voting will begin on this during regular election time in July. --------------------------------------- "These USGenWeb Bylaws; Article VI (Duties/Qualifications of Advisory Board), Section 3 and Article XIV (Grievance Procedures and Appeals Process) are repealed and replaced as stated below. A standing Grievance Committee will be established. Article XIV, Section 2. The Grievance Committee will operate under the Grievance Policies and Procedures. Changes to the Grievance Policies and Procedures may be made by the Advisory Board or may be proposed by the Grievance Committee for approval by the Advisory Board. Thereafter, the Grievance Committee will recommend for approval by the Advisory Board a slate of members to fill vacant positions. Article XIV, Section 4. The resolution of a grievance is binding upon the membership. Article XIV, Section 6. All actions, whether by the national Grievance Committee or by a grievance process at a state or special project level, shall be characterized by fairness, courtesy, and respect for the dignity and the rights of each individual. To that end, the following rights and responsibilities apply to all grievance processes within the USGenWeb Project, XXGenWeb Projects, and Special Projects. Article XIV, Section 6(1). A member may choose to act as his or her own representative, or may select someone to act as his or her representative. The member retains the right to change or dismiss the representative at any step of the procedure; however, such action will not affect the point at which the change or dismissal occurs. Article XIV, Section 6(2). When a member is dismissed from a position in a State, Local, or Special Project, that member's position may not be filled until the expiration of the time for that member to file a grievance. When the said member files a grievance, that position may not be filled unless the grievance resolution against the member calls for the member to lose that position. Nothing should prevent the unlinking of the member's website and establishing a temporary website pending resolution of any grievance. Article XIV, Section 6(3). Nobody shall be discriminated against for participating in the grievance process." -- You have to wonder about humans, they think God is dead and Elvis is alive!

    2. TCF
    3. Hello Everyone, The Surfing Committee is pleased to announce the selection of Colorado County as the 2006 TXGenWeb County of the Year. Please join us in congratulating the county coordinator, Dorothy Albrecht! Colorado County has much to offer researchers. Dorothy has a very interesting collection called "It Was In The News" that has bits of information that was in the newspapers from 1850 onward. Other collections and databases of interest for Colorado researchers are Obituaries, Photographs, Military, Early German Settlements, Church and Bible Records, Early Recollections of Colorado County, Walker Furniture Store Day Book, and many more. Grab yourself a cup of coffee or a glass of sweet tea and head on over to Colorado County. You'll spend many a pleasant hour visiting with Dorothy and folks from the past. You'll be glad you did! http://www.rootsweb.com/~txcolora/ Sincerely, Peggy T. Surfing Committee Chair

    1. [TXGW-NEWS] USGenWeb Grievance Committee Members - Proposed Slate
    2. Shirley Cullum
    3. Please forward to all Project lists. ======================================== In accordance with the Grievance Committee Procedures, the Advisory Board has received and reviewed the qualifications and made recommendations on those members who volunteered to be on the initial Grievance Committee. The slate of committee members is listed below and will remain open for member comment for a period of ten days. After that date, the board will vote to accept or reject the slate based upon the discussions and member input at the first opportunity. We wish to thank all those who volunteered. As always happens when there are more volunteers than positions, the selection process was difficult. For the initial appointments to the committee we selected those members who either expressed life experience in handling grievances with mediation and arbitration through their employment, and those who have experience in training others. We also heavily favored those who have a familiarity with the process itself due to input into the committee or other processes similar to the GPC. These individuals have a hard job to establish the committee and to recruit and train volunteers. Individuals with experience in the area and with the procedures will help significantly. CC/LC Representatives: Ray Ensing - CC CAGenWeb, MTGenWeb and MNGenWeb - 2 years Cheryl Rothwell - CC ILGenWeb - 2 years Bob Sweeney - CC PAGenWeb - 2 years SP Representative: Alice Warner - Tombstone Project - Arkansas/Archives FM - Iowa SC Representative: Sharon Craig - ASC Indiana - 1 year At Large Representatives Sharyl Farrell - CC - 2 years - 1st year as Grievance Coordinator Bill Utterback - CC KYGenWeb - 1 year Please feel free to send your comments to myself, Mike Peterson the Representative At Large, or your Advisory Board representative for consideration.
