Brazoria and Kenedy counties have been added to the list of available counties. The other counties that are available are Frio, Moore, and Titus. If you are interested in adopting one of them, let me know. Shirley
Everyone run on over to the TXGEN list and welcome Alicia Davidson to the TXGenWeb. Alicia is the new coordinator for Kleberg County. Shirley
Hi Everyone, I have received emails from several people outside the TXGenWeb concerning the neglect of some of the county websites. Some still have Bettie Wood or David Morgan listed as the State Coordinator, and some have the last date of updates that are over a year old (and even older). From the Rules page for County Coordinators http://www.rootsweb.com/~txgenweb/rules.htm : Updated Web Sites Every site should be updated twice a year. This lets the visitor know that the site is being maintained, is not abandoned, and is in good working order. This is not "a hard and fast" rule, but if it hasn't been updated at least once a year, then we will have to consider getting a new county coordinator. It is a must to keep a working email address and to notify the State Coordinator of any email changes that pertain to the county sites. Since I became the state coordinator 6 months ago, all county websites should have current dates and current State Coordinator information on them. Therefore, I expect all county websites to be in compliance on these issues by May 15th, 2007. If I can help in any way, please let me know. Shirley

Just a reminder that there is only 10 days left to submit your design for a new header for the TXGenWeb website. The contest ends at midnight April 25th. Submissions should be sent to Elaine mcstumped@suddenlink.net and Shirley shirlcullum@sbcglobal.net Shirley Shirley Cullum <shirlcullum@sbcglobal.net> wrote: Think the TXGenWeb site heading is a bit lacking? We are fortunate that Texas has so many "icons" that make us think of Texas. If you are good with graphics and would like to design a new heading using the Logo and colors we have at present, let your imagination soar and design several to submit. You might even know someone outside the TXGenWeb family that is great at this type of thing and would like to create something for us. * The creator will be given full credit for the graphic, but rememberthat the design will need to be permanently donated to the TXGenWeb. * We all work hard to help our fellow researchers by putting free genealogy online, so now lets "play" a little. Those who "can" will enjoy coming up with the designs, and those of us who "can't" will enjoy seeing everyone else's efforts. Hello, Everyone, The Surfing Committee is pleased to announce Burnet County as the March County of the Month. Congratulations to the county coordinator, JoAnn Myers! The Burnet County site has a lot to offer researchers and visitors. You can learn from the pioneers by reading some of their original stories, view the naturalized citizens of the county prior to 1906, read about the Indian attacks, and even "attend" the McGuire Murder Trial of 1899. For these and other interesting databases and tidbits, please visit JoAnn and Burnet County at http://www.rootsweb.com/~txburnet/ . Honorable Mention counties this month are Clay, Colorado, Crosby, DeWitt, Harrison, Sabine, and Van Zandt. A big round of applause for those county coordinators also. Kind Regards, Peggy T. Surfing Committee Chair * *
Congratulations to Burnet County and JoAnn! This COM award is Burnet County's 3rd, so it is also now a member of the TXGenWeb Hall of Fame. Great job, JoAnn! The Surfing Committee has a couple of openings for regional surfers. The amount of time involved varies, but is usually no more than 4-5 hours a month. Surfers are assigned a region of the TXGenWeb to surf and select the best county in that region for the month. You may view the regulations and guidelines for the committee here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txgenweb/surfing/Criteria/index.htm#regulations <http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Etxgenweb/surfing/Criteria/index.htm#regulations> Please contact me if you are interested in joining, or would like more information about the committee. Sincerely, Peggy tcf@genealogist.net Surfing Committee Chair

Drop by the TXGenWeb and see the two new features on the sites main page that we hope will help direct visitors to TXGenWeb and to the individual counties. Please take a look at the bottom of the page and you will now see 3 search engines. 1. The top one is our standard search engine that will search the TXGenWeb site. We have had this search engine for a good while. 2. The bottom Google Custom Search on the left is new and will search all of TXGenWeb, including the counties. Many thanks to Linda Lewis for creating this one for us. 3. The bottom Google Custom Search on the right is new and will search all of USGenWeb, including the states. While this is a working search engine, it is still a work in progress as not all states have been added yet. Again, many thanks to Linda Lewis for this search engine. Happy Searching!
