    1. [TXGW-NEWS] Texas Historical Commission Cemetery Information
    2. Shirley Cullum
    3. good off site link to give the patrons and let him know we will suggest his site as a link for the counties to post I received an email from Gerron Hite of The Texas Historical Commission with a link to their website. www.thc.state.tx.us This link is a good off-site link for information about Texas cemeteries that you may wish to include on your county websites. From Gerron's email: "The Texas Historical Commission has a designation program titled "Historic Texas Cemetery". We have designed over 950 cemeteries in the last 9 years. General information about these cemeteries and other non-designated cemeteries are on the THC website. We are obviously very interested in getting your readers and researcher to take the next step after recording the information on the gravestones to recorded the cemetery in the deed records as an additional layer of protection. This is accomplished by applying for the Historic Texas Cemetery designation." Have a good day! Shirley

Under the formal procedures of USGENWEB and the Committee, the remaining members elected me Chairman. I am now, at their behest, seeking candidates to fill this At-Large position. To be eligible, you must be a member of the USGENWEB Project or any Special Project with at least one year's experience. If selected, your membership on this Committee will be for two years. The primary responsibility of the Committee is to identify, select, train and supervise mediators to settle grievance disputes. That is, the committee members will not mediate disputes themselves, but will select and manage those who do. A member should have an even disposition, an ability to listen to both sides of an argument, and a willingness to recommend solutions and instruct others. Interested parties should communicate directly to me at my e-mail address below, with their name, contact e-mail and a paragraph with their background. I will present any such candidate [more than one if we have more than one interested] to the Committee for consideration and selection. We would think this is a fast-track process and certainly want and need to have it resolved in the next week or so. Sincerely, Bob Sweeney Chairman bobs@chall.com ******************************** A copy of this announcement will be sent to Board upon completion of the current agenda item, and the USGenWeb webmaster is requested to place the same on the announcements page. 1. [TXGW-NEWS] New CC
    2. Elaine
    3. Everyone trot on over to TXGEN@rootsweb.com and give a big Texas welcome to Linda Laminack Piper as the new CC for Rains County. Linda works in the family history/genealogy department of the Longview Public Library in Gregg County, so I know she will be a big asset to the Rains County site. Sadly, we are saying goodbye to Sharon Pierce, outgoing CC for Rains County. We would like to thank her for the time and efforts spent on the website, and all the valuable information she provided for the patrons. On a personal note, I cannot express the loss I feel in losing my Co-CC for Gregg, Harrison, Hopkins, & Upshur Counties. I would never have attempted to take on any of them if it had not been for her help. I owe her more than words could ever express. 3. A patron has contributed 1961 Texas Deaths to the TXGenWeb Project. It is a partial, but has over 2200 deaths listed, so it certainly is a nice addition to the information we have online. You are welcome to extract the deaths for your county to place on your county site, or if you would rather link to it, that is fine also. It can be found on the main page under the heading of Records. http://www.rootsweb.com/~txgenweb/1961Deaths.htm Thanks! Menard County has various databases and other items of interest for the researcher and visitor. You can read about horse rustlers and the flood of 1938, see the 1915 & 1916 girls basketball teams, and drop in for a "cold one" at the Legal Tender Saloon.
