    3. I am researching the McGUFFIN surname. Sheriff Hugh L McGUFFIN b. 10 Mar 1842, married Nancy Indiana REESE abt 1864, d. 18 Jun 1924. Hugh was a sheriff in Guadalupe County from 1884 to 1890. Hugh and Nancy are buried in Cement Cemetery outside La Vernia in Guadalupe County (borders Wilson County). Their stones are not together. Nancy is buried with REESE kin and Hugh is alone on other side of a gravel path. I have pictures of their stones. I don't know for sure where Sheriff Hugh McGuffin was when he died although one researcher has suggested Kingsville in Kleberg County. I have just joined that mailing list (no activity so far) and have not had a chance to ask if anyone can check for a death certificate there for me. Need to find his death certificate or some proof to his parents. I have run into conflicting information on Hugh's parents. One source has him as the son from the second marriage of Judge Hugh McGUFFIN to Delphia EARL. Have since found two articles published in Seguin that has him as the son of John F. McGUFFIN (also a Judge). I believe the articles to be correct. What is misleading researchers is the 1850 census. It has 8 year old Hugh living with 70 year old Hugh McGUFFIN in Guadalupe County. I also need more information on John F. McGUFFIN. It is believed that he was a son of Judge Hugh McGUFFIN by his first wife Jenny (Jane) FORD. John F. was b. 30 July 1812 in South Carolina, married Sarah (Sally) Montgomery, 6 Jun 1838 (Montgomery County History Book), d. 15 Sept 1887. He was a JP in Guadalupe County in 1882 and lived there from 1878 till his death. He is buried at Riverview Cemetery in Seguin. One of the articles mentioned above was in the Seguin Gazette 9 Jul 1995. It had a picture of the stone, but the copy given to me last weekend only has the top half. I would like to go and get a real picture. It appears to be in very good condition. The story was actually an excerpt taken from an article written by Willie Mae Weinert for the Seguin Enterprise 1 Apr 1938. The other article I found was a special done for Law Enforcement Day and had no date or name of paper. It had a short story about all the sheriff's of Guadalupe County along with pictures. I also have a copy of this picture of Sheriff Hugh McGUFFIN (copied from an original 5x7 print owned by my father-in-law). I have been told by many that he only had one arm, but don't know the story about that (wish I did). If there is anyone that can assist in my search please contact me.
