I am researching the Simeon TAYLOR/Sarah NOWELL family and their descendants. They came to Texas in 1849 from Hertford Co., NC and eventually settled at Roans Prairie in Grimes County. My gr-gr grandfather, James NOWELL, came to Grimes Co. from NC in 1859. Sim TAYLOR's children and grandchildren married into many Grimes County families: BOULET, CALLAHAN, CONE, DOUGHTIE, EDMUNDSON, FLOYD, GARDNER, GILLESPIE, JARRETT, McCUNE, NORMAN, SMITH. I was fortunate to find a lengthy obituary for Sim TAYLOR, Sr. in the Navasota Daily Examiner of March 26, 1902. It was on microfilm at the University of Texas in their newspaper collection. They have the Navasota Daily Examiner on microfilm for Sep. 6, 1898-Dec. 30, 1904 [incomplete]; Dec. 29, 1905; Dec. 15, 1938-Dec. 31, 1942 [incomplete].
