I am all for it but please make sure that you have permission from the paper in question. They do have copyright. If you don't have permission please paraphrase the important information in the obit. Please do not copy word for word. >> I appreciate your statement here, but I want to add a bit of my own. I was a newspaper editor (now retired) for 35 years, and a reporter and feature writer for 15 years before that. Never ever have I known a newspaper who objected to anyone copying an obit. In fact, we have made photocopies or provided "tear" sheets of obits for years for them to be used in hundreds of publications of the family choosing. And never once mentioned the word "copyright ." It is a courtesy to the newspaper to note the source of the obit, as in "Broken Arrow (OK) Ledger, 3-14-01" In fact, it could be helpful also to the person who needs to read the obit to have this source mentioned. One thing I would suggest to anyone who is posting an obit taken from a newspaper. Take a couple of minutes to read over it and make sure the information is correct. Newspapers usually get their information from a funeral home, which gets theirs from friends and relatives who understandably are a little distraught at this time and prone to errors. Then either correct or make note of the errors so that they do not become entangled in a cycle of misinformation. love' joan
