Have you located your Stover in the 1850 census. Given that he was only 17/18 he might be still living with his parents. If not, can you locate your Stover in the 1880 census. At least in that year you were asked where your parents were from and that could at least give you a lead back to a state. Lastly, are there any newspapers archived from Grimes for that time period. Given you have a date of death, you might be able to locate an obituaty for him and that may list parents, siblings or somebody. Also are there any history books from Grimes that list biographies?
