Bowen who according to strong family tradition was lynched about 1871 for allegedly stealing horses. He married Polly Ann Wells in Grimes Co. in 1868 according to LDS. He enlisted in Confederate Army at Anderson in 1862 according to Confederate Records of the Nat'l Archives. He appeared inthe 1860 US Census for Madisonville, Madison Co. at age 16 with parents Daniel A and Harriet Bowen, all three born in SC. About six years ago I visited the Grimes Co Courthouse with no luck. Also the public library in Navesota but had the bad luck of the only old newspaper being out for microfilming.
