Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Grimes/143 Surname: Fulton ------------------------- Dear Ms. Taylor, Tried to respond to your email address but got a reject notice. Sounds like you may have direct information from which Blair drew his, but I have a copy of the book, which Mr. Blair signed for my dad. Do you want\ just page 62 which has Samuel Fulton's bio or do you want other pages? Blair footnoted Barker's (71) "The Austin Papers," (72)Texas Land Office Records, (73) "Abstract of Texas Land Titles, I," and (74)"Transcribed Deed Records of Montgomery County, Vol. 83" in his construction of Fulton's slightly less than one page bio. These original sources may yield information even more pertinent than Blair's info. Indeed the bio is so short, I think I'll type it here. I have put Blair's footnotes into parenthesis for this note. If you still want a photocopy, let me know where to send it. "Samuel Fulton. -- Samuel Fulton came to Texas on a visit in 1824 from Alexandria, Louisiana. He was accompanied by Russell H. McWaters. They brought a letter of introduction to Stephen F. Austin signed by one J. Thomas, also of Alexandria. In this letter Thomas refers to Futon as a young man and states that both Fulton and McWaters had numerous wealthy, and respectable connections (71). Fulton was evidently favorably impressed with the situation in Texas for he mad application for a league of land in 1828. He was then thirty-nine years old and had a wife and four daughters. His wife's christian name was given as Elizabeth. Her age was given as thirty-one years. None of the children were named in the record (72). The league granted Samuel Fulton is located in the southwest portion of Grimes county and was patented April 19, 1832 (73). No record is found of any living descendants of Samuel Fulton. It is very probable that he never really settled on his grant. It seems that he was dead before July 13, 1839, for on this date his patent was presented to the county court of Montgomery county by John Conner, and it was necessary to verify the signature of Samuel Fulton. Hugh McGuffin was appointed administrator, and one-fourth of the league was sold to Dickinson & Westcott, then of Montgomery county. The instrument of sale was dated July 13, 1839 (74)." Alexander Fulton and his daughter Courtney Anne Fulton, who married a Groce are listed under that latter family's multiple-paged entry. Let me know what you might need, Pamela Callaway
