A CALL FOR: Panels, papers and stories of the Civil War as related to Montgomery County The Montgomery County Genealogical & Historical Society is sponsoring a conference entitled The Civil War & Montgomery County: A Historical & Genealogical Odyssey. The conference will be in the Conroe Towers, Conroe, on April 30, 2005. The conference will be divided into three sections: 1. The issues and causes of the Civil War 2. Montgomery County and the conflict: A. Attitudes toward the war B. County Organization for the war C. Military and personal stories D. Repercussions, socially, economically, politically in the county 3. Genealogical Workshop: Tracing your Civil War ancestors MCGHS invites participation by the general public. Should you have a background in this area of study, have personal documents or letters or be interested in performing a skit, telling a story or presenting a paper, please contact us by November 5th with a brief proposal or overview of your potential contribution. All applicants will be notified of the decision of the screening committee. Up to three special awards will be presented for the best essays on the topic, The Civil War and Montgomery County. The award process is open to all. The deadline for essay submissions is January 5th, 2005. The purpose of the conference is to encourage an understanding and appreciation of the issues and outcomes of the Civil War, as they relate to Montgomery County.
