Tx Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Tx/Grimes/239 Surname: TAYLOR ------------------------- My gggGrandfather, William Taylor sailed from Torquay, England in 1849 (lived in East Allington, Devonshire County)and settled in northwest Grimes County off of Navasota River outside of Iola. There is a small cemetery on private property outside of Iola. William was a stonemason (supposedly did chimneys at Fanthorpe Park). He's buried at the Taylor Cemetery on the property along with a few other relatives. Info needed on Grimes County cemeteries...........Need listing of any other cemeteries in Grimes County and lists of people buried at each cemetery. Is there a cemetery custodian or association? Have heard that John R. Maxwell is expert on Grimes County cemeteries. Does anyone know name of his book or how to contact him? Am also looking for cemetery listing of Willow Hole Cemetery in MADISON COUNTY. Is there a cemetery custodian or association?
Scott, To search Grimes County Cemeteries go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/Texas/indexd.html#g There is no Taylor Cemetery listed for Grimes County. This does not mean it doesn't exist it just means that it is on private property and no one who is interested has gone to find it and put it on the listing. There is no custodian or association for these cemeteries. The owner of the land is somewhat obligated to see that no harm comes to the cemetery but is not obligated to fence it or take care of it. I know this from personal experience. Part of my family is buried in a cemetery in Robertson County in a farmers field. It is in terrible disrepair. If you live in Texas and would like to search for it let me know and I can give you directions to Grimes County.
