    1. Navasota Library requesting volunteers
    2. Sarah Korpita, a librarian for the Navasota Public Library, has requested some help for an obituary project they are undertaking. They are hoping to have an searchable obituary file. They have newspaper records on film there at the library and need volunteers who will type up obituaries that they find in the film. It might involve coming to the library and looking at the film. I'm not sure about that yet. I'm going to help type as much as I can. Hopefully these obituaries will be shared with the Grimes County TXGenWeb site also. Sarah can be reached at sarmwern@hotmail.com . Library hours are: Mondays 3:30 - 7:30 Tuesday - Friday 9 - 6 Saturday 9 - 12 noon Eleanor Colson Grimes County CC

    1. Navasota Public Library looking for some Grimes County books
    2. I never saw this come through the regular mailing list back when rootsweb was having server problems last week, although I did see it on the digest. I wanted to make sure that everyone on the mailing list saw this request. I'm sorry if this is a double post. Eleanor Colson I've been in contact with Sarah Korpita, one of the librarians for the Navasota Public Library.  They are looking for some books about Grimes County that they would like to add to their collection.  If you know how to get copies of these books or know of anyone that might donate or sell a copy, please let her or me know.  Her email is sarmwern@hotmail.com. The books they are looking for are: Baptist Churches of Grimes County, The History and Burial Records of Stoneham County, and The Honor Roll of Grimes County Thanks, Eleanor Colson Grimes County CC

By using your directions, I was able to find the Bryant cemetery. The others, however, must not be marked. If anyone can give any more clues to finding the Sommerford cemetery, please do. Example: Who or what was it named for? Do you know any family names who might have lived nearby? Going by Eleanor's directions, does anyone know what Precinct that is or was? "Sommerford Cemetery - again some roads without names. Take Highway 6 south out of Navasota. Turn left on FM 318 [going east]. On the second road to the left, turn left [going north]. This road appears to wind around. Go to the right at what appears to be a fork in the road. Cemetery will be on the right." Thanks, Wynell

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JiB.2ACE/560.2 Message Board Post: Wynell, I just found a webpage with links for Anderson, Texas that has links that go to MapQuest pages for different cemeteries. Now why it had Bryant Cemetery listed as close to Anderson I don't know because it is closer to Navasota. Anyway, as best as I can tell for Bryant Cemetery, you go east on 105 from Navasota about 2 miles. At FM 415 you turn right. The cemetery will be on the left where 415 appears to cross FM 413. If you get to FM 416 you've gone too far. For Sand Prairie Cemetery - this one is harder because some of the street names are not on the map. It looks like you take 105 west out of Navasota, turn left [south] on FM 423. On the third road going to the left, turn left [south]. You will dead end into a road [no name on map], turn right. Cemetery should be on the left before you get to the next road. Sommerford Cemetery - again some roads without names. Take Highway 6 south out of Navasota. Turn left on FM 318 [going east]. On the second road to the left, turn left [going north]. This road appears to wind around. Go to the right at what appears to be a fork in the road. Cemetery will be on the right. This is the best I could do using maps online and my atlas here at home. Someone might have the Grimes County cemetery books which might have directions for these cemeteries.

    3. Henry Franklin Plaster killed Edmund P. ( Ned ) Harrison on May 21, 1892 in Bedias. The records state that Ned was sitting tailor fashion on a counter in a store in Bedias. Plaster came in and accused him of making false statements about his family ( 3 girls within his family ). Ned said that he did not make the statements. He is still sitting on the counter, Plaster is walking back and forth in front of him, obviously angry. Plaster says that he must have satisfaction and Ned tells him to take it now. Plaster shoots Ned who falls to the floor, is then picked up, placed on the counter and dies within 10 min. When Ned was shot, it was reported by several different people in the transcript that he said to Plaster, " I told you the truth and you killed me for it." Supposedly a Plaster girl and another young lady were having a conversation, it was overheard by a Mr. McDonald who reported it to Plaster a few days later at a school meeting. A few days later the shooting happened. As the story has been told before, it was off color and people were a tad touchy back then. The trial of H. F. Plaster lasted from July 1 - July 14, 1892. He was acquitted, his lawyer was T. P. Buffington. This event is mentioned on page 36 of The Saga of Anderson. ----- Original Message ----- From: teezeother@yahoo.com To: TXGRIMES-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, July 03, 2004 9:28 AM Subject: [TXGRIMES] Re: Murder in Bedias This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
