    1. Jesse W. Lee
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JiB.2ACE/643 Message Board Post: I have been searching for Jesse W. Lee for some time now. Born in 1826 in Edgecombe Co. NC. He brought his family to Grimes Co. in 1866. Took a county surveying job according to a family history done by my husband's great uncle. Jesse bought 180 acres of land in Grimes Co. also according to this same history. I have not found him or family in the 1870 census of Grimes Co. He died in Nov. 1871. A member of the Masons, Iola Lodge, and possibly the Shiloh Baptist church. I finally find wife Winnie and children in the 1880 census but Jesse was deceased by then. How do I go about finding info about him. Would a letter to the county clerk be something to consider? Would there still be some records available for that time period of 1866 through 1871 when he supposedly lived in Grimes Co? Thanks, Sis Lee

    2. Tom McAninch is looking for the burial site of James Clinton Neill. Would someone who has the Grimes County cemetery books look for him? Tom can be reached at mcaninch@cablelynx.com. Thanks, Eleanor Colson Grimes County list admin. {I have found references indicating that he was buried in Corsicana, in Seguin, and in Grimes County. Most, including his biography by C. Richard King, indicate that he was buried in Grimes County. His historical marker in Corsicana and his biogaphy from Corsicana indicate that he was buried in Grimes County.   I have searched every cemetary listing I can find in all three counties without any luck.  > ----- Original Message ----- > From: EleanorCol@aol.com > To: mcaninch@cablelynx.com > Sent: Saturday, May 14, 2005 6:39 AM > Subject: Re: James Clinton Neill > > > In a message dated 5/10/2005 12:55:02 PM Central Standard Time, > mcaninch@cablelynx.com writes: > > >> am trying to find the gravesite of James Clinton Neill, my great, great, >> great, great, great uncle. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JiB.2ACE/424.1.1.2.2.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Shawn, Virtually all the Isbells in your area come from a Pendleton ISBELL of Polk/Bartow Co., GA, who had about 10 kids (all born early 1800's). One of these, a Jeremiah ISBELL, had large family, and about half his kids came to the Iola, TX area in mid-1800's. Because Jeremiah's younger brother, Samuel, married into the KEITH family, I consulted a lot with the researchers in the ISBELL family, but mostly about earlier events and genealogy (not about houses). The elderly researchers have pretty much died off, but several are still around....Truman ISBELL lives at Madisonville. In Grimes County, there is a John Maxwell who is very knowledgible about people, places and history of the Iola section of the county. You will likely find him (and elders of the section) at "Homecoming"...this weekend or Memorial Day, at Keith. Shouldn't be hard to find an oldtimer there or in Iola who can tell you all about your house. Besides that, there surely was a title search done by your title company! when you bought the house. This would show a chain of ownership, earliest to present, from the deed records.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JiB.2ACE/424.1.1.2.2.1 Message Board Post: Shawn, The ISBELL family arrived pretty early in Grimes County, and a number of family groups resulted....mostly around Iola and south to the Keith Community. There would be several "old Isbell houses" in the area. A few ISBELLs remain in the area, and any of them could probably tell you a lot about your house.

    1. McIntire Cemetery
    2. Steve Voss, scvoss@cox.net, is looking for the location of McIntire Cemetery in Grimes County. "I'm going to Grimes Co next week and I sure hope to find the graves of my McIntire ancestors, as well as the old home site ( home built in 1825, and pictured in the Library of Congress) of Margaret McIntire ( my maternal GGG Grandmother).   I have some pictures of the cemetery, and the McIntire grave markers taken in 1980 - but the pictures are very poor in quality.   Margaret and Leslie O'Connor purchased the .9 (plus) acres adjacent to the cemetery over 30 years ago from Bluebonnet Farms - to ensure the preservation of the cemetery. " Can anyone help Steve? Eleanor Colson
