It will affect much of Grimes County. The Texas Department of Transportation is asking for public comments until Aug. 29, 2005. Mail those comments and information regarding family cemeteries or historical sites to TxDOT, P.O. Box 14428, Austin, Tx 78761. Official information about this devastating project can be accessed through http://www.keeptexasmoving.org. Other information can be found at http://www.corridorwatch.org and http://wallercountycitizens.org. Please pass this information along. While it immediately affects Texas residents, this brand new "concept" in transportation could soon be threatening your neighborhood soon. The nation's eyes are watching what happens to this project. This land will be taken by eminent domain. One segment of this road has already by given in contract to a company from Spain.

If you're looking for information on the Simes family, there is a good deal of information in the out of print book titled Our Hometown: The Bedias Story. There is a contact person on this website who will be willing to copy excerpts for you. Thanks, Sandy

Bloodworth who appeared on the 1880 Grimes Co., TX census. She was listed as 36 years old (b. 1844 then) and was living with her two sons: Charlton age 13 and Brady age 8. All of them were born in Alabama. Charlton shows up on the Brazos County, TX marriage listings as marrying a Sallie Williams on 8/18/1886. I also have a Mrs. M.A. Bludworth listed in the Galveston Daily News on June 4, 1893 p. 1., col. 7 as age 52 (would have been born about 1841 then), died in Bryan, buried at Thompson Creek Cemetery. I joined the Daughters of the Republic of TX through her and was sad not to know where her final resting place was. This past January we went to York, York Co., S.C. and made pictures of her 1st husbands broken head stone. When I did my application for the DRT, I was not sure where he was burried either. What a warm blessing to find his broken stone that had been uncovered from a corner of the cemetery. Miracles do happen. His name: John B. Quirl - death date was March 23, 1834 at 32 years of age.   Thank you for you time and dedication to history,   Mary Elizabeth Quirl Reed Reedchselz@sbcglobal.net
