    1. Re: [TXGRIMES] Cox/Freeman
    2. Hello, Thank you very much. Margaret E. Cox was my father's sister and Eve C. Freeman was her daughter. Margaret's husband was named Samuel E. but my father and uncle did not like him and always referred to him as old Bob Cox. I wonder if that Bob Cox could be him. Again I thank you. Libby Clay

    2. ********Please address any replies to Dane at [email protected] Eleanor Colson << For some 20 years I have been searching for info on my Great Grandfather Allen S. Bowen who according to strong family tradition was lynched about 1871 for allegedly stealing horses. He married Polly Ann Wells in Grimes Co. in 1868 according to LDS. He enlisted in Confederate Army at Anderson in 1862 according to Confederate Records of the Nat'l Archives. He appeared inthe 1860 US Census for Madisonville, Madison Co. at age 16 with parents Daniel A and Harriet Bowen, all three born in SC. About six years ago I visited the Grimes Co Courthouse with no luck. Also the public library in Navesota but had the bad luck of the only old newspaper being out for microfilming. Any info on this person would be tremendously appreciated. Dane Bowen in Alexandria, Va. >>

March 1859, or marriage record for his parents. 1860 census for Grimes County shows a Samuel Hulbot, age 1, living with mother Rose E. Hulbot, age 24, and sister Mary, age 7. No father is named; Rose and children are living with one George W. Grimes (or something similar; census taker's cursive is hard to read). There are many variant spellings of "Hurlbut.". Any help would be appreciated.

The surname has been spelled 3 other ways, but we use the STEPHERSON spelling today. All 3 believed to be living in Grimes Co., in the early 1870's, but all married in Walker Co.,Tx., in the mid 1870's. Need information on their parents and proof that John, Robert Ann "Bobbie" and Louisiana "Lou", are brother and sisters. I can not find anything on John before he married Sally Greer in 1875 in Walker Co., Texas. It is reported that their father died around 1870 or earlier, and their mother remarried a Mr. Young. All 3 siblings were born in the 1850's. I have not been able to find the 3 siblings together on a census for 1860 or 1870. If anyone has any information on this family, please contact me at [email protected]
