Please send any answer you might have to Randy at [email protected] He is not currently a subscriber to this list. Thanks, Eleanor Colson <<My Great Grandfather was Cornelius M. Nolan. He taught school at East Academy in Stoneham in 1873. He married Susan Elizabeth Hearne in 1877. They had children by the mane of May, Thomas W.(twin) and Parnell (my grandfather). Would like to know if any information exists about Cornelius teaching at East Academy or any other information as I am trying to trace Cornelius. East Academy was merged with West Academy and became some other school. Thank you. Randy Nolan>>
Alice Granger Osborne was one of twins born to Alice Camp Osborne, June, 1876 in Grimes Co. Tx. This child did not show up on the census with her sister in 1880 in Lampasas Co, Tx. By chance does this child have a marker in Grimes Co., Tx.? I believe this family lived around Anderson.
I am seeking information on a Levi Washington Freeman who served in the 1st Texas Cavalry during the Civil War and later became a farmer in Iola, TX following the war. He was reportedly from Pennsylvania originally and had lived in Cedartown, GA, before moving to Texas. I would like to know who his wife was, his children, and where he is buried. He reportedly died in Grimes Co. Also, I'm seeking information on Ollie Freeman who lived in Iola in the 1920's and 1930's. Ollie Freeman is listed as a surviving child of Mary Francis Freeman of Bell Co. in her obituary of Sept. 22, 1930. If anyone has any information on these people, I would appreciate very much hearing from you. Judy Freeman Pajares
I didn't find a Joseph Paul Taylor in any of the 4 cemetery books I have on Grimes co Tex. Sorry ! Ruth Bowen
Just happen to know someone who is related to, and researching, the TAYLORS of Grimes County. I think the progenitor of the family arrived in Texas from England in 1849. I'm sure this researcher won't mind me sharing his email address. He is Brad Manning [email protected] Good luck and happy hunting! Hello, I am proud to announce the creation of a new mail list called TX-Cemeteries. This list has the encouragement of Gerron S. Hite, Cemetery Preservation Coordinator in the History Programs Division of the Texas Historical Commission and he's excited at the opportunity to share his feelings about our cemetery preservation to a large group all at once Others that have been notified, Lee Campbell, Past Representative for the Texas State Genealogical Society {and my cousin} and her friend, Past President of the TSGS Wanda Donaldson. I've let all the following people know about the list and they may join from time to time. Yvonne Pickens, current President of the TSGS. Trey Holt, coordinator for the Texas GenWeb. Wyndell Taylor, creator of GA Cherokee County GenWeb page, {and my cousin}. <Smile> I just have a lot of cousins !!!! The main focus of this list will be to locate and catalogue our endangered cemeteries. Gerron Hite has obtained a new program to help us give our cemeteries "Historic Texas Cemetery Designation". He is willing to help us learn how to accomplish this designation. This will also be a topic for us to address. I am an experienced RootsWeb mail list admin. Currently I manage the mail list for VARoots, SC-Old Pendleton-District, and the Brand surname list. Donna, the lead technician, of the RootsWeb Help Desk has complimented me with a request to join her on the RootsWeb desk, which made me feel really good, but my main focus is our cemeteries. I am also experienced in the survey of large and small cemeteries. In addition to the topics above there will be discussions on how to preserve and restore old monuments with the help of a caretaker with over 25 years experience. To join the mail list simply send a message to [email protected] with only the word subscribe in the subject line and nothing else. If you prefer the Digest send a message to [email protected] with only the word subscribe in the subject line and nothing else. I look forward to seeing you there, Respectfully, donna brand

Someone was wanting information on Samuel Fulton and I thought I sent the information in to the list. However all I saw was the correction I posted in reference to the first message. I will repost the information. Samuel FULTON born about 1794 in Rapids Parish, La., was the son of Alexander FULTON (from Washington,PA.) and Mary Henrietta ( WELLS) from Florida, married in 1793 in Alexandria, La., which was founded by Alexander FULTON and named after him. It is believed Alexander died abt. 1818 in La..(no Proof). Samuel FULTON was one of 6 children. His sister Courtney Ann (1816-1869) married 17 Nov 1831 in Alexandria, La., Leonard Waller GROCE, s/o Col. Jared Ellison GROCE and Mary WALLER. Col Groce Built Leindo Plantation, now in Waller Co.. The town of Courtney in Grimes Co.,was named after her. Information shows Samuel FULTON died July 1838, was married to Elizabeth FULTON about 1793. At the time of his death, records show they had 4 children: Samuel(died before 1850), Mary, Rebecca and Ann. Elizabeth must have been with child at the time of his death, because she had a daughter in 1839 named Willis, also born in Alexandria, the same as the other children. Evidently, Elizabeth moved back to Alexandria after the death of her husband Samuel. Their daughter Ann born in 1831, married Harvey Johnson ALLEN Sr., 7 Feb 1848 and had 8 children. Their son Harvey Johnson Allen Jr., (30 Jul 1853-4 Jan 1928) married Robert Ann"Bobby"STEPHERSON (9 Nov 1854-29 Nov 1938) in Walker Co.,TX on 3 Oct 1872. Robert Ann was my gr grandfather's sister. Harvey and Aunt Bobby have a granddaughter still living in Grimes Co., Tx.. I hope this helps. Helen
In the message I sent yesterday, regarding the birthday of the s/o Ann FULTON(d/o Samuel FULTON and Elizabeth) that married Harvey J.ALLEN Sr., I gave the birthdate of Harvey Allen Sr. (25 Feb 1821), as the birthdate of their son Harvey J. ALLER Jr. who was born 30 Jul 1853 and died 4 Jan 1928. There is still a living descendant(a granddaughter) of Harvey Johnson Allen Jr. and Robert Ann "Bobby" (STEPHERSON) ALLEN JR., living in Grimes County. Helen.

Dear Ms. Taylor, I have a copy of the book, which Mr. Blair signed for my dad. Do you want just page 62 which has Samuel Fulton's bio or do you want other pages? Blair footnoted Barker's (71) "The Austin Papers," (72)Texas Land Office Records, (73) "Abstract of Texas Land Titles, I," and (74)"Transcribed Deed Records of Montgomery County, Vol. 83" in his construction of Fulton's slightly less than one page bio. These original sources may yield information even more pertinent than Blair's info. Indeed the bio is so short, I think I'll type it here. I have put Blair's footnotes into parenthesis for this note. If you still want a photocopy, let me know where to send it. "Samuel Fulton. -- Samuel Fulton came to Texas on a visit in 1824 from Alexandria, Louisiana. He was accompanied by Russell H. McWaters. They brought a letter of introduction to Stephen F. Austin signed by one J. Thomas, also of Alexandria. In this letter Thomas refers to Futon as a young man and states that both Fulton and McWaters had numerous wealthy, and respectable connections (71). Fulton was evidently favorably impressed with the situation in Texas for he mad application for a league of land in 1828. He was then thirty-nine years old and had a wife and four daughters. His wife's christian name was given as Elizabeth. Her age was given as thirty-one years. None of the children were named in the record (72). The league granted Samuel Fulton is located in the southwest portion of Grimes county and was patented April 19, 1832 (73). No record is found of any living descendants of Samuel Fulton. It is very probable that he never really settled on his grant. It seems that he was dead before July 13, 1839, for on this date his patent was presented to the county court of Montgomery county by John Conner, and it was necessary to verify the signature of Samuel Fulton. Hugh McGuffin was appointed administrator, and one-fourth of the league was sold to Dickinson & Westcott, then of Montgomery county. The instrument of sale was dated July 13, 1839 (74)." Alexander Fulton and his daughter Courtney Anne Fulton, who married a Groce are listed under that latter family's multiple-paged entry. Let me know what you might need, Pamela Callaway
Could you be looking for Tuck instead of Turk? My gg-uncle was married to a Haynes. I don't know what information you want on Samuel Fulton, but you can find information on him in Montgomery Co., Genealogy Dept., at the library, also in a book Austin Colony Pioneers by Worth S. Ray. "The estate of Samuel FLUTON came before the Montgomery County Court in July 1838, and Thomas JAMES was appointed guardian of Samuel FULTON, one of the heirs. John CONNOR and Adam VINCENT were his bondsmen. Mary, Rebecca and Ann FULTON were other minor heirs on Sam FULTON, who came from Alexandria, Louisiana. I am trying to fill in gaps in my husband's family tree and like to include all descendants when possible. That way I can help others too. I am interested in any descendants of Isham DAVIS,Jr. {didn't realize he was a Jr} and Harriet WORSHAM. Dates and names would be sufficient. Places if possible. This is not my husband's line but he descends from Harriet's sister Lizzie who married John J. COLSON.
