The spelling of the name, Gressett, seems to have been subject to change. There was a Susan Elizabeth, but probably older than the one you mention. The Gressetts lived around Iola. Another Grissette seems to have married the daughter of William B. Travis. There is a monument to her at the Masonic Cemetery, Chappell Hill, and have been told that she was buried on the property now belonging to the Star of the Republic museum at Old Washington. Ella Esther Turner, daughter of Esta Gressett Turner, married Selser Howard Perry, and lived and died in Grimes Co. Lois Perry Richardson
I believe I have some information on Sarah Ann Davis since I descend from the Davis and Chaney families in Grimes County. Please bear with me while I try to find it and have it scanned. I am trying to do some research on the Chaney's from Iola. Can you tell me who was the mother and father of Jennie E. and Ella Chaney? Carolyn Swanzy
I don't yet know that, but I should know that soon, as I am going to recieve Jennie's Social Security card application, and it will list her parents on there. :) Carolyn Swanzy wrote: > I believe I have some information on Sarah Ann Davis since I descend from the Davis and Chaney families in Grimes County. Hi, Does anyone out there know anything about Samuel (Bob) Cox who married Margaret (Maggie) Clay. They migrated from Alabama to Grimes County between 1900 and 1905. They had two children, Sidney, Fred and Eva who married a Freeman. I know that Eva had a son named Sidney Freeman. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Libby

Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Grimes/149 Surname: Smith, Lewis ------------------------- Hello Brian, Was there a Lucinda (born 1874 somewhere in Texas) in this family? I am searching for this lady. She married Angus Jefferson Lewis and they lived in Polk County, Tx. Per the census both of Lucinda's parents were born in Mississippi. I found a Lucinda on the 1880 census for Polk county that I think is "mine". She was 7, siblings were: John, age 11, Missouri, age 9, and Rich (female), age 19. It is said that Lucinda's father was a preacher; I assume Baptist because she was Baptist. Juanita Joyce Lewis [email protected]
My apologies to everyone for sending that "messed up" message previously. I should have known to cut and paste first. My mistake. Here is the message again and hopefully you can read the whole thing. Again, sorry if you receive this on more than one list but felt it was important enough to be forwarded to everyone. I am not in any way promoting this website or any other website. Vanessa ----- Original Message ----- Subj: Genealogy scam Date: 09/03/2000 6:30:57 AM Mountain Daylight Time From: [email protected] (Phyllis Fleming) I received this message after it was forwarded to the INGENWEB state coordinator: About 2 weeeks ago we received a complaint from an Archives submitter that her materials were found on a genealogy subscription service: www.familydiscovery.com The submitter was able to do a little digging and found that they were linking to her files housed on her server, but shrink-wrapped inside a frame so it appears to be THEIR work. About 10 days ago, to investigate this, I signed up with familydiscovery. To date, I have not received a user id or password to get inside. The registered owners of the web site gave bogus telephone numbers in their registration. One number goes to a recorded message line; the other to a carpet company. Some of the e-mail adds on their web site bounce. Standing on the outside and looking through the window, it appears that several folks' web sites have been prize-mined: http://www.familydiscovery.com/whatsnew.htm The Storey Co., IA and the Washington Co., PA stuff seem to come from USGenWeb sites. Some of the other IA and NC stuff seems to come from non-USGW sites. None of the materials seem to be housed at either rootsweb or usgennet. If anyone out there is or has been a member of familydiscovery -- or has been ripped off by them, I ["Joy Fisher" [email protected]>] would like to hear from you. Posted on: Grimes Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Grimes/148 Surname: ABEL, STUCKEY, BYRNES, BIRCH, STREETMAN ------------------------- Hi Barbara! I am hoping you can help with a brick wall. My gg. grandfather John Madison ABEL m. Una Merilda STUCKEY 1872 Brazos Co, she was from Grimes Co. Oral history is she called George HAMMONDS brother. She was b. ca 1853, could George's mother have been widowed and remarried to a STUCKEY? John and Una moved to Collin Co by 1880, she died 1882 in birth with fourth child Willie Lee Abel. I think they must have kept in touch with Una's relatives in Grimes Co because two of the daughters married there, Ella Jane m. Jim BIRCH ca 1891, and Willie Lee married Hugh BYRNES 1898. Una is said to be buried Van Alstyne Cemetery, Grayson Co TX, John Madison Abel b. BYRNES family cemetery, Mesa TX. Anything sound familiar? Beth Abel Jones
Am hoping someone can help with this brick wall! Una Merilda STUCKEY b. ca 1853 TX resided Grimes Co, m. John Madison ABELL 1872 Brazos Co. By 1880 they were living in Collin Co, where Una died 1882 giving birth. Evidently there were still relatives in Grimes Co as daughters Ella Jane and Willie Lee ABELL married in Grimes Co. in 1890's, Ella Jane to a Jim BIRCH, and Willie Lee to Hugh BYRNES. Am desparately seeking parents and other data on Una Merilda STUCKEY. Oral history is that she called George HAMMONDS brother, perhaps her mother was married twice. Appreciate any assistance on this dead end!! Beth Abel Jones
