    1. [TXGRIMES] New Cemetery listing added to website
    2. I just uploaded a new cemetery listing to the website for Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Anderson, Texas. This information was contributed by Maurine Wehmeyer. Thank you so much Maurine! It is a wonderful piece of research. I also owe thanks to Albert Hartstack, the county coordinator for the Washington County, TX website, who converted the files for me to document files and showed me how to transfer them to html where I wouldn't lose the formatting. Thank you Albert! If you haven't visited the website recently, please take a little time and browse through it. I hope it will be a help for you. I have big plans for the site. I am currently half way through transcribing the 1860 Grimes County census. Anyone out there interested in proofreading for me? Maurine also is going to try to get Grimes County marriages to me to add to the website sometime in the future. If you like what you see on the site, consider voting for it for Texas county of the month. A link to the voting form is on the website. Eleanor Colson

    1. [TXGRIMES] FWD: Harpers in Grimes County
    2. Can anyone help Marilyn? Please answer her at [email protected] Eleanor Colson <<Subj: Harpers in Grimes County Date: 09/17/2000 11:58:36 AM Central Daylight Time From: [email protected] (Marilyn Miller) To: [email protected] Eleanor, we are chasing down the Harper family that were in Grimes Co. in 1870's. Jordan Harper married Maud Caldwell in 1865 in Montgomery Co. We located Jordan & Maud Harper with daughters, Mary & Texana, on the 1870 Grimes Co. census. After Maud's death at birth of last child, Joseph Alexander Harper, in May 1878, we know of 4 children which were placed with various families. Mary "Mollie" was in the Tharp home, Will was in the Hardee home, Joseph was in the Ammons home all in Madison Co. and last week we found Texana in the Willis Neeley home in Grimes. Through family stories we know that Judge Carl T. Harper of Madisonville was aways referred to as cousin Carl but to date we have not linked our family to his family. Joshua & Mary Harper were on the 1880 Grimes Co. census with son Carl T., so probably Carl was born in Grimes Co. He died somewhere in the time frame of 1939 but we are unable to find where he was buried and what happened to his parents. Or as a matter of fact what happened to Jordan Harper after death of his wife, Maud. Do you have any Grimes Co. cemetery books that list any Harper names. Carl T. died about 1939 but doesnot show up in any cemetery book listing in Madison Co. With what money he had, we felt like a marker would have been placed on his grave. His son, Paul Harper and daughter in law, Bertha Forrest Harper, are buried at Midway Cem. in Madison but no Carl T. Harper, or wife, Virginia "Jennie" Harper are listed. This family is also believed to be tied in with the Judge Joe E. Webb family but also this link has not been established. An elderly Madisonville school teacher told us that a Nathalie Harper had married a Webb which might have been the Joe E. Webb. Just grasping at any straw that might help us tie these families together even if its only by a thread. I am a firm believer in listing to family stories handed down thru generations because usually there is always a grain of truth in what you hear. Appreciate any help that you maybe able to give me. We have sorta hit the brick wall on this family. I am doing this research for my brother in law, Louis C. Harper. Marilyn Miller of Garland [email protected]??

    3. My Jennie Chaney was born November 29, 1879 in Iola, Grimes Co., TX and died February 24, 1971 in Harris County, TX. Her son Luther McCleney was born September 7, 1902 in Iola, Grimes Co., TX; I don't know when Jennie and her husband Henry divorced, but I do know that she married an A. L. Bevly in Madison Co., TX in April 1905. Do you know any Bevlys? Inez did give me a lot of background on the Stovers, and coupled with research I did on Rootsweb, I compiled a lot of information, that I will post on the message board once I have it all cleaned up and pretty. When I spoke to Inez, she read me the inscriptions on the tombstones of C.J. Davis and Harriet Gorden Davis, parents of Sarah Ann. I believe they are buried on the Howard farm, near the barn. I could be thinking of other graves she mentioned. I know there are McCleneys and Stovers in Zion and Enon Cemeteries in Iola. My great-grandfather Henry is buried in Plantersville Cemetery. I do no know yet where Jennie is buried. I have a lot more info on the Stovers that I will post later, possibly tonight. I'd appreciate it if you'd give me what you've compiled for your family, as you are a relative through Sarah Ann Davis, and I'm also tracing her lineage and the descendents of her parents. I love genealogy! Don't let me forget to post all the info I got from Inez! Dani Carolyn Swanzy wrote: > I am glad you were able to reach Inez. My g-g-grandmother Frances P. 1. [TXGRIMES] Grimes County Migrations
    2. I saw this done on a couple of my other TX lists and thought it was a great idea. Sometimes we have trouble finding what county our Texas ancestors came from in a particular state. For instance, I know that William A. Blount came from Alabama but I am having a terrible time finding him on an 1850 census for AL when he should be there. Quite often groups of settlers came from the same area of a state and settled in the same county. I am going to list my husband's Grimes County ancestors and include where they migrated from. Maybe if we get enough of the same from you on this list, I can combine them on a new page for the website and we can determine some patterns. NAME YEAR MIGRATED FROM William A. BLOUNT abt. 1853 Alabama - possibly Sumter Co? John THORNTON 1850's Coffee County, Alabama John M. COLSON abt. 1869 Washington and Mobile Cos., AL by way of Greene Co, MS James W. HARGROVE 1860's Hopkins Co, TX - father from Lawrence Co, AL and then Monroe Co, MS James W. WARD 1870's Pike County, Alabama William T. WORSHAM abt. 1877 East Feliciana Parish, LA Eleanor Colson

Send me a list of some of your names and I will see if they seem to line up with my family. Right now I'm playing computer tag with my 2 computers, but should be able to look at my family file sometime today :>} Sharon Buckley [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, September 07, 2000 9:29 PM Subject: [TXGRIMES] FWD:Re:McCleney, Alverson, Rumby, Davis, Grissett, Chaney, Dar > Subj: Re: [TXGRIMES] FWD: McCleney, Alverson, Rumby, Davis, Grissett, > Chaney, Darden, Floyd > Date: 09/07/2000 9:07:24 PM Central Daylight Time > From: [email protected] (Frank and Lois Richardson) > To: [email protected] > > I am descended from the Gressett family; my grandmother was Ella Esther > Turner, daughter of > Esta Gressett.
