Was there an Episcopal Church in or around Navasota 1850/60? If so, are records available? Thanks for any info. Mary Stewart
Posted on: Grimes Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Tx/Grimes/169 Surname: MORRIS, SHELTON, OLIVER, COLVIN ------------------------- John W. Morris and Kate Thomas were married in 1867 in Grimes County Texas. They lived in Mustang Prarie where they owned a farm and ran a Syrup Mill. Three of their sons purchased land adjacent to John W's farm. John W. and Kate had 13 children. I am interested in any information on this family for our family genealogy records. I believe Susie Almedie Morris Shelton was one of their 13 children. I am told Susie was a very beautiful girl who favored her mother. Susie married James V. Shelton. Born to their union was Daisy, William Morris, James Luther, and Shirley Kathryn. Susie died a tragic death from a fall while she was pregnant. I have only bits and pieces of information on her, because the children were so young when she died. If anyone can help me with information on Susie and Callie, all of the other children it would mean so much. I am told John W. came from Scotland, I would like to know more about Kate. My husband(son of Shirley Kathryn) has high cheek bones, and dark complexion. Did Kate have any Indian blood in her line? I have a letter written to Callie from Susie, perhaps some of her ancestors would like a copy. Will be happy to Share. TNKS~`Dee
The town of Navasota in Grimes Co. is built on the old DAN ARNOLD Mexican Land Grant. Daniel and his family lived in the area from the late 1820's thru the 1840's, and his daughter Asena and her husband Alexander Thompson died in the area between 1830-1839. Does anyone know of an old Arnold family cemetery anywhere around Navasota?? I would assume that they lived closer to the Navasota river. There is an Arnold family cemetery west of San Antonio where one of Daniels sons, his mother, and other family members are buried, so it seems that they did tend toward family cemeteries. I am looking for a burial site for Asena and Alexander Thompson. Joanne

Please direct any answers to Linda Jewell at [email protected] <<Recently, I received some oral history of my great, great-grandmother. In this, she said she was born in Anderson (Grimes County). Her maiden name was Louise Brown. In her history, she said she grew up on a place her parents called "Rose Hill." I don't know her parents surnames, but she was born in 1856. She had two brothers and two sisters. She was sent to Baylor Female Seminary and then eventually graduated from Baylor. She had a sister named Evaline. Her father raised corn and cotton. I realize how scant my own information is but hopefully there may be some information about the Brown family. She was also married at her home in Anderson. She said a Baptist preacher came to their home to perform the ceremony. She married John William Baker of Waco, Texas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Linda Jewell>>

Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Grimes/162 Surname: Zuber, Liles, Palmer, Hardwick ------------------------- My name is Kameron Searle and I am a desecendant of Martin Parmer. Louisa Liles, wife of William Physick Zuber, was a Palmer. She was Martin Parmer's granddaughter. All of William and Louisa's children would be descendants of Martin Parmer. They lived in Grimes county for many years. The purpose of this e-mail is to invite you and all living descendants of William Physick Zuber and Lousia Liles to the Palmer/Parmer Family Reunion which will be held in Huntsville, Texas, March 31, 2001. Please see our Web Page for more details about the reunion. This page is under construction at http://freeweb.pdq.net/ksearle1 We are making an all out search for all of the descendants of Martin Parmer and his four wives. Please correct me if I am wrong. Martin Parmer and his first wife, Sarah Hardwick Parmer, had a daughter named Charlotte. Charlotte Parmer (sometimes spelled Palmer)married William Liles. William and Charlotte Liles daughter, Louisa Liles, married William Physick Zuber. Louisa and William Zuber had six children, I believe. We are trying to get good names and addresses of the descendants of Zuber's six children. Can you help? Do you have any names and addresses you can pass along? We are about to conduct our second mail-out with reunion information. Martin Parmer was born Martin Palmer in Virginia. As a grown man he changed the spelling to Parmer. He lived in Kentucky, Tennessee and then on the frontier of Missouri for years before it was a State. When Missouri became a State, Martin Parmer was elected to the first General Assembly (Legislature) in 1821 and later to the Missouri State Senate in 1824. In 1825, he came to Texas. The next year he instigated the Fredonian Rebellion, an early attempt to declare Texas independent from Mexico. The Rebellion failed and Parmer managed to receive a Mexican Land Grant using the Palmer spelling of his name in 1835. In that same year Martin Parmer was a delegate to the Consultation at San Felipe where he was elected to the General Council of the Provisional Government of Texas. In 1836, Martin Parmer was elected as a delegate to the Convention at Washington on the Brazos where he signed the Texas Declaration of Independence from Mexico. Parmer was also Chairman of the Committee that drafted the Constitution of the Republic of Texas. In 1839, President Lamar appointed him Chief Justice of Jasper County, Texas. Parmer died in 1850. In 1936, his body was removed to the State Cemetery in Austin Texas. Parmer County in the Texas Panhandle is named for Martin Parmer. The reunion is open to all descendants of Martin Parmer. We hope to see you there. Hi, in some strange & tangled way, you and I maybe kin to each other. We have some of the same surnames. Now there was an old cemetery, "Lindley Cemetery" that has had a name change to "Preston Cemetery". In this cemetery are, Bennetts, Preston, Lindley,Nowell, Crundwell, Nichols & Whiting. The Bennetts are my line. There was an Elizabeth Bennett that married a Morse or Pace. I can never remember but it is one of the two names of that I'm sure. So the families were connected. Below are the Lindley names in this cemetery Lillian Lindley died 31 Dec 1990 age 69 Samuel Uriah Lindley 25 Mar 1877 - 15 Aug 1877 s/o Sam & C H William " died 7 Dec 1870 age 53 Martha Jane Hostetter Lindley died 7 Feb 1878 age 53 M E Vergher Lindley 14 sept 1859 - 28 July 1880 d/o W M & M Toy Lindley 17 May1875 - 21 Mar 1887 dau of Frank & Mary Lindley Will Lindley 1868 - 17 Jul 1959 Hattie Eloise Lindley 27 Oct 1883 - 19 Aug 1884 dau of L B & F E Hope this helps.
