There are some Taylors buried in Courtney Cemetery,(The Taylor Lot).Perry C. Taylor 1867-1945, and wife Mollie A Taylor 1871-1929. Lawrence Alex Taylor 1865-1906 and wife Nora Lee Stepherson Taylor, my grandfather's sister, and their daughter Rhobia Carolyn Taylor. I also found in Austin Colony Pioneers' where John B. Taylor married Susan M. Burleson on 30 May 1860. I have wondered if there is a connection between John B. and the other two Taylor men, Perry C. and Lawrence Alex, who I believe are brothers, but no proof yet. Hello, I am writing to you, the List Admin, with the hopes you will forward this message to your list subscribers. It is the time of year when many new researchers are coming on line to do their genealogy research. I believe we have developed a tool to help them. I hope you will encourage their visit by forwarding this message to them. Many hours have been spent recently compiling a new "Texas Cemeteries Directory" which is hoped to benefit every Texas Genealogy Researcher and at the same time encourage the preservation of our Cemeteries. The new Directory shows over 21,000 cemeteries found on line with information about where each one was found in an easy to use format. The directory includes information about those cemeteries that have been inventoried and where to find them. So far those who have visited this new Directory have made such comments as "What a neat idea." & "You've really hit on something here." In addition our web site hosts the list of cemeteries which have reached the protected status of "Historic Texas Cemetery" designation, whose program was developed by "The Texas Historical Commission". We also have a special page where those who have labored to write books about our cemeteries can announce the availability of those books, sell the books, buy a book, or trade them. Most well organized cemetery inventory projects sell the books to fund the project. We all know how expensive it is to work in our cemeteries and believe this is a vital part of encouraging their preservation. There is lots more to see, so come check us out, and while you're there leave a message about a neglected cemetery in our guest book. These posts are followed up on by the folks at "Save Texas Cemeteries" and the folks who manage the "Historic Texas Cemetery" designation program. With your participation it is our hope to encourage the location, inventory and preservation of our Historic Texas Cemeteries. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~txcemeteries/ We look forward to your visit, donna

Posted on: Grimes Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Grimes/243 Surname: KEELS, SEWELL, SOWELL, ASHWORTH, CROW ------------------------- I am trying to do some research for a relative. He descends from Isaac Jackson KEELS, who was allegedly the 3rd burial in the Creek, TX Cemetery. I am under the belief that Creek, TX is/was located in Grimes County; correct? Where is/was it? My relative's grandmother, Dona Ellen "Donie" (KEELS) ASHWORTH was the daughter of Daniel Jackson KEELS & Martha SEWELL/SOWELL. Daniel Jackson KEELS, 1-5-1852 AL, was the son of Isaac Jackson & Mary (CROW) KEELS, both from SC. I located Isaac & Mary Keels on the 1850 Henry Co., AL census and found three other children: John (b. ca. 1842 SC), Mary (b. ca. 1844 SC) and Huldy J. (b. ca. 1848 SC). If anyone has any information about these Creek, TX natives (Donie referred to herself as a native of Creek, TX), please contact me.
I have a cousin that lives in Grimes Co. and he knows it pretty well...I'll ask him if he knows of a Taylor Cemetery. His mother and father were good friends to some Taylors in Huntsville. May take me a day or two. I just got a new computer station and my desktop will have to be hooked up again and that desktop carries all my main addys. I also have a cousink that lives in Navasota and is a county commish. He might know about the cemetery. MaryAnn Bartlett Bartlett, Bell Co., TX Hometown: Huntsville, Walker Co., TX
Scott, To search Grimes County Cemeteries go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/Texas/indexd.html#g There is no Taylor Cemetery listed for Grimes County. This does not mean it doesn't exist it just means that it is on private property and no one who is interested has gone to find it and put it on the listing. There is no custodian or association for these cemeteries. The owner of the land is somewhat obligated to see that no harm comes to the cemetery but is not obligated to fence it or take care of it. I know this from personal experience. Part of my family is buried in a cemetery in Robertson County in a farmers field. It is in terrible disrepair.
