My husband is descended from them. Your response to Brian Smith is the first time I have seen anyone with information on this family. I tried to email you but the message was returned as undeliverable. Can you give me information about the Reed Bible and more about the children's names. Is the name Lewis Annie all one name or was that supposed to be Lewis and Annie? The W.T. listed is my husband's Grandfather. Any infor will be appreciataed. [email protected]

There was nothing in the prior book about my family names: Perry (there was information about some other families); Turner, Gressett, etc. I have done a great deal of research, and could make some contributions. 3. I am researching the Lewis and Elizabeth Shelton that were in Grimes County in 1850/60/70. I just found a message on this site from a Frank Clark giving information from a Reed Bible and need to contact him but when I clicked on his email address at the top of the message my message was returned. If you are out there please contact me. Lewis and Elizabeth had a son William B. There was a Thomas living with them in 1870 that I believe is my husband's Grandfather. I would appreciate any information anyone can give me on this family. [email protected]

    2. Hi, I would like to add a few words about this subject. If the history book you are planning for Grimes county is going to be like the book in 1981, then I'm all for it & have a great deal of info on my Bennetts, Roans, Ratliffs to add to it. My Roan line was in the first book and that really was a big help in my genealogy research. Now, if you are talking about something like that pictorial book Grimes county did a few years ago, count me out! That was the biggest disappointment I've ever seen. They had over 800 pictures submitted & only used a little less than 300 in the book. What a waste! !!! It made me very sad & angry that so much genealogy was in their hands & not published. So, if it is to be a History Book of Grimes co., Texas Vol II I would look forward to reading the family histories & submitting my families. Please let us know 1. If there is going to be a Grimes co Tx history book vol II. 2 Who do we send our family histories to & by what date. 3 What is the cost. Most of the time so many books have to be sold before the book is published. I vote "yes" on the History Book of Grimes co.,Tx Vol II"! Ruth

    3. Posted on: Grimes Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Grimes/264 Surname: WILSON ------------------------- Unless memory fails me, and it might, the name of the large cemetery at Navasota, Grimes Co., Texas is Oakland Cemetery. There apparently is also another Oakland Cemetery in Grimes Co. Hugh Hamill Wilson was a brother of my grandfather, John Hamill Wilson, who is also buried in Oakland Cemetery at Navasota. If you have any information on a third brother, Walter Wilson (served in Hood's Texas Brigade and wounded at Second Manassas), or on an Arthur Wilson who was probably their cousin, I would much appreciate receiving it to help with family history project.

    2. Mr. Hereford, I couldn't help but respond to your letter. My great-great-grandfather Fielding Ruble also got a league of land from the Mexican government - in Falls County, Texas; however during Indian uprisings he and family lived in Montgomery County/Grimes County. He and family are shown on the census records If the new volume, you mentioned yet to be published, will show some of the early settlers who lived there I thought I should point it out. He got his league with the Robertson Colony. I am interested in knowing the name of your relative who got the league also. If you have a history that area where your family lived I thought it might be interesting to me. If you care to write me I can be reached at [email protected] Thank you. Lena Stone Criswell
