Just a friendly reminder to pass along the good deeds? Have you checked the GenWeb site for the county you live in lately? Do they need help? There is almost always a "needs help" section. Does the site have the addresses for the county court house, library, cemetery addresses, funeral homes, churches, genealogical and/or historical societies, newspapers, or other things of interest? Most of the caretakers of sites don't actually live in that county. All you might have to do is pick up the phone book next to your computer. Have you bought a book and posted yourself as willing to do lookups? Can you run to your local library to do obituary lookups once a month? Hope I'm not lecturing, just meant to be a little reminder.

Posted on: Grimes Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Grimes/10289 Surname: SANDERS ------------------------- I am looking for any information on the A. A. SANDERS family that lived in Grimes County (Iola) from the late 1880's to at least 1930. A. A SANDERS, went by two names. The census records show him a Adeal A. SANDERS, while all other records that I have available to me show his name to be Augustus A. SANDERS. He was referred to quite often as "Gus." A. A. Sanders was born in GA (Bibb County) on September 29, 1865. I understand that at least one brother John H SANDERS arrived in TX with A.A. SANDERS. Both A. A. and John raised families in Grimes County, Texas (Iola), and were joint owners of a merchandise store in Iola. John H SANERS was born in Bibb County GA on December 12, 1856 and died in Iola on August 27, 1916. John married a woman named Gertrude (last name unknown). A. A. Sanders married Nora L. WREN in Texas, evidently in Grimes County about 1890 since their first child (Hazel) was born in 1891. They are both buried in the Zion Methodist Cemetery in Iola. Their children were: 1. Hazel SANDERS b: June 1891. 2. Margaret Lucille SANDERS b: April 23, 1893 married Alvis Hardie Wilcox. 3. Trannie L SANDERS, b: September 14, 1895 married John Walter Mallet in Grimes County 4. Thomas H. SANDERS b: 1898 d: Nov 1962 5. Emma SANDERS, b: 1901 6. Norman A. SANDERS b: March 20, 1904, d: October 2, 1991 was a Baptist preacher in Cuero, Texas. 7. Kenneth N SANDERS b: 1908, d: Sept 1967 8. Milton E. SANDERS b: June 20, 1910 d: May 8, 1986 (my father) I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who might have any information on any of these SANDERS, especially A. A. SANDERS, or John H SANDERS. I just started posting obits (in my spare time) from the paper here in Montgomery County. I only put the deceased name, DOB, DOD, funeral home in charge, and cemetery information and source of paper and date of paper. I will not list any living relatives. They can go and research this for themselves, the major funeral homes and papers are online. Please do not copy word for word. >> I appreciate your statement here, but I want to add a bit of my own. I was a newspaper editor (now retired) for 35 years, and a reporter and feature writer for 15 years before that. Never ever have I known a newspaper who objected to anyone copying an obit. In fact, we have made photocopies or provided "tear" sheets of obits for years for them to be used in hundreds of publications of the family choosing. And never once mentioned the word "copyright ." It is a courtesy to the newspaper to note the source of the obit, as in "Broken Arrow (OK) Ledger, 3-14-01" In fact, it could be helpful also to the person who needs to read the obit to have this source mentioned. One thing I would suggest to anyone who is posting an obit taken from a newspaper. Take a couple of minutes to read over it and make sure the information is correct. Newspapers usually get their information from a funeral home, which gets theirs from friends and relatives who understandably are a little distraught at this time and prone to errors. Then either correct or make note of the errors so that they do not become entangled in a cycle of misinformation. love' joan

Since GRIMES county information is included in the Montgomery Co., book, I thought I would send this along but cannot find my addy for Montgomery Co. Going through some of my parents things for the final time, I found a paper-back booklet called, THE CHOIR INVISIBLE, An early History of Montgomery County. Prepared by Montgomery Historical Society. There is no copyright date. The booklet does not have many pages but, in the very back, it lists "Heads of Families In Montgomery County From The Census of 1850." There are a few photos and sketches and short discussions of some of the communities. If no one has a copy of this booklet among Montgomery Historical Society members, let me know and I will have it copied and mailed to you. I will not give up my parents' copy and will make copies only with the Historical Society's okay. MaryAnn Bartlett Bartlett, Bell Co., TX P.O. Box 196 Bartlett, TX 76511 Fax: 254-527-4074
