    2. To Gene Pettit, There was a Prairie Plains 3 miles east of Shiro. Shiro is East of Roans Prairie. I am not sure about a Grimes Prairie. I think the Boney's name was mostly north of Hwy 30. The Grimes County Historical Book that was printed in 1982 has quite a few interesting families history in it. Maurine Wehmeyer

    1. [TXGRIMES] Taylor, Nowell, and related lines; Navasota Daily Examiner
    2. I am researching the Simeon TAYLOR/Sarah NOWELL family and their descendants. They came to Texas in 1849 from Hertford Co., NC and eventually settled at Roans Prairie in Grimes County. My gr-gr grandfather, James NOWELL, came to Grimes Co. from NC in 1859. Sim TAYLOR's children and grandchildren married into many Grimes County families: BOULET, CALLAHAN, CONE, DOUGHTIE, EDMUNDSON, FLOYD, GARDNER, GILLESPIE, JARRETT, McCUNE, NORMAN, SMITH. I was fortunate to find a lengthy obituary for Sim TAYLOR, Sr. in the Navasota Daily Examiner of March 26, 1902. It was on microfilm at the University of Texas in their newspaper collection. They have the Navasota Daily Examiner on microfilm for Sep. 6, 1898-Dec. 30, 1904 [incomplete]; Dec. 29, 1905; Dec. 15, 1938-Dec. 31, 1942 [incomplete]. I believe you can get the microfilm on interlibrary loan. The website is www.cah.utexas.edu/divisions/Austin/newspapers.html Mary Tyler [email protected] ----- Original Message -----

    1. [TXGRIMES] Census Enumeration Districts
    2. Elsa
    3. I'd like to check the Ancestry.com online census images for some families in Grimes County, but it looks like only a partial list of enumeration districts (unless they don't start with #1). In 1900, Districts 16-27 are available, and in 1901, Districts 14-28 are available. Can anyone tell me if Richards is included among the districts available? Can't tell from the online descriptions! On another subject, we're trying to find a copy of an obituary that appeared in the Navasota Examiner on 6 January 1929. Pat Craddock says that there is neither a microfilm or hard copy of that edition to be found anywhere at the paper. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas about anywhere else to search . . . . We'd be grateful for any advice or suggestions. Elsa & Bill in Allegany County, Maryland

Tx Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Tx/Grimes/10304 Surname: GOZA, HENSLEY ------------------------- I do not find any reference in the Grimes County History Book to Fleetwood Goza. Your made reference to he being an orphan, and I have no knowledge of this. I think you must be referring to the article in the Bee County, TX History Book, subitted by Lucille Goza. Another article referring to Fleetwood Goza is found in the Madison County, Texas, Vol. II, published in 1997, F537 on the Edwin White Family. On Feb. 1969, I visited in Iola, TX with Alice Hensley Worsham age 91, sister to Sarah Goza, and I copied Bible records of Elizabeth Kitrell Hensley, wife of John H. Hensley. Much was written in English script and hard to read. Recorded for Fleets & Sarah: Fleet Goza and Sarah Hensley was married Nov 11, 1890 Robie Goza was born Sept 18, 1891 (Sarah's son) Grimes Co., TX Court records: Neallie Goza b 22 Jan 1893 I also copied the Bible records of Virginia Alice Hensley Worsham.

    3. Posted on: Grimes Co. Tx Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Tx/Grimes/10300 Surname: Goza, White, Hensley ------------------------- I am really confused. Someone sent me some of the details of the Goza information in the History of Grimes Co. TX. which includes Fleetwood Goza. Their information and mine are different. I have information from the Goza Book and the Madison Co. TX. history . The Goza book has that Fleetwood was born 17 July 1871 TX. He was born to William Goza b. 1845 MS. William was the son of Joshua Goza b. 1820 MS. Joshua would have been my Great Grandfather's James Webster Goza's brother. In the Madison Co. history, William is listed as marrying Exrene "Shug" White ca. 1867.They had 2 children, Lulu who died young and Fleetwood. I understand from the information in the Grimes Co. history that Fleetwood came to Texas with the Hensleys and was an orphan. He married Sarah S. Hensley 11 Nov. 1890, died 10 Nov. 1948 Kenedy. Can you add to this information or clarify any of it? Thanks, Geri
